Our workplace is fast paced, challenging and supportive, where every employee plays a critical role in our success. The Nurse Management Team at the Mackay Base Hospital is seeking applications for a Nurse Practitioner to join their team on a permanent basis.
Your opportunity The Nurse Practitioner (NP) is the most senior and expert clinical nurse within their area of practice in the Hospital and Health Service.
They are an integral member of the multidisciplinary health care team who practices autonomously but in collaboration with others to assess and manage patients within their clinical context using expert nursing knowledge and skills at an advanced level based on the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia – Registered Nurse Standards of Practice.The NP is accountable for clinical practice, professional advice given and delegations of care and contributes expert nursing assessment and advice to achieve integrated nursing care within a risk management and best practice framework.The NP will primarily provide direct expert nursing care and will initiate, implement and monitor relevant interventional therapies and interpret diagnostic pathology as part of the role which also includes the authority to prescribe medications and initiate direct referrals to other healthcare professionals.The NP will take a lead role in ensuring targets are met in an efficient and effective manner which will include collaborating with the multidisciplinary partners to ensure patients receive the most appropriate care in the most appropriate place by the most appropriate personnel.
It is therefore important that the successful applicant can demonstrate expert knowledge and skills as well as the ability to communicate effectively, work well in a team environment and influence change.This role will report operationally and professionally to the MHAODS Division Nursing Director.
The position will sit within the Nurse Management Organisation Unit which report to the MHAODS Division Nursing Director.About the Team Mental Health and Alcohol and Other Drugs Service The Mental Health and AOD Service is comprised of eight clinical teams across the MHHS.
The Mental Health Service is responsible for the provision of comprehensive, specialised mental health assessment and treatment services across the age-spectrum for people with severe and complex mental health problems.
Our services aim to be consumer focused and recovery oriented and are provided in a variety of settings including community, an acute inpatient unit, hospitals and emergency departments.
Older Persons Mental Health The Older Persons Mental Health Team provides specialised expertise for the community, in the assessment, diagnosis, monitoring and treatment of individuals who may have a mental illness or disorder, or a dual diagnosis issue, that is complicated by problems and illnesses related to aging.
The OPMH team assists older people with mental illness to remain living and participating in the community or primary health care setting, whilst also co-ordinating and supporting access to a range of appropriate services to assist with recovery and least restrictive practice.
The team supports primary care and aged care providers, solo workers and/or small teams to undertake consumer assessments for a wide range of consumers (including those with complex and unclear aetiology), especially where minimal local consultant support is available.

The district covers an area of approximately 90,000km2 and provides services to patients and their families in Bowen, Cannonvale, Clermont, Collinsville, Dysart, Glenden, Mackay, Middlemount, Moranbah, Proserpine and Sarina.
