About the role CHL is seeking to appoint an appropriately experienced and skilled independent Non-Executive Director (NED) to one of its subsidiary Boards - Community Housing (Tas) Ltd (CHTL).
As a valued member of our organisation, the NED will be part of our highly qualified and experienced Board.
They will be given the opportunity to confer with key stakeholders involved in the delivery of housing services to make a real difference.
The NED will play a vital role in corporate governance with a wide range of responsibilities including: Providing experienced, sound advice to the Chair and CEO Contributing to the development of strategy and providing constructive scrutiny of policies, proposals and plans developed by CHTL.
Understanding financial information reported and management of operational risk, including accountability for services provided and public funds used.
Advancing the Group's Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) to strive to create workplaces and service deliveries that are culturally safe and inviting.
The role requires attending approximately 6-10 board meetings per year.
As some meetings will be held in person, and an in-depth knowledge of community housing in the state is required, candidates must reside in Tasmania.
Directors' fees will be paid in accordance with company policy.

About you: First and foremost, to be successful in this role you must have a passion for housing and a clear commitment to achieving strong community housing outcomes together with a desire to provide culturally safe and appropriate housing to low-income persons.
Essential Criteria: Detailed understanding and knowledge of the responsibilities of a company director and a current Director Identification Number (DIN).
Knowledge of the community housing sector, specifically in relation to Tasmania.
Strategic expertise with the ability to review strategy by constructive questioning and suggestion in order to contribute to the effective decision making of the board.
High level communication skills both verbal and written.
Desirable: Relevant degree.
Board level experience in the private or public sectors in a mid to large and complex enterprise.
Knowledge and/or experience in the building/construction or housing developments.
Experience in providing housing and/or related services to Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander peoples.
The Board seeks to attract a diversity of skills and would welcome a NED with knowledge and/or experience in any of the following areas: IT, accounting and/or strategic financial management; social and affordable housing development/ management; or social research.
Please note that satisfactory police, ASIC, and ACNC checks are required for all directors.
