ABOUT THE ROLE....
The Duty Manager/ Night fill Captain's primary role is to ensure the smooth running of the entire store in the short absence of the regular Managers.
It involves ensuring the main functions in each department are in order.
Milk, Bread, Meat, Deli, etc.
are full & tidy, and the Customer Service and Night Fill team are functioning well and on task.
Merchandising skills are important.
A key aspect of this role is managing & mentoring their team to achieve expected standards & keeping everyone on task.
In this role you will be Responsible for Strong culture of safety at all times including the correct use of machinery, carton cutter, ladders & trolleys; spills must be cleaned up immediately.
Implement and maintain the store's procedures as per the Bernardi Group standard.
Effective communication.
Ensure the service departments, that is the Customer Service and Deli departments, are fully operational and providing excellence in customer service.
Ensure all employees have been allocated and are undertaking their required duties.
Ensure the Store is looking clean and tidy at all times.
All ladders and rubbish trolleys must be kept to a minimum in the aisles; baskets and shopping trolleys must be clean & available.
Store cleanliness in general, specifically entrance and carpark bins, cardboard & plastic crushed, and warehouse left in good shape for the next day.
Ensure the stock level in each department of the store is of the Bernardi Group standard.
Special attention to stock levels is essential in the Fresh Departments including milk, meat, eggs, Produce, Deli, and Bakery as they are fast-moving sections and need to be checked at regular intervals (i.e.
every 1 or 2 hours).
Checks are also required in the Long Life Departments such as Liquor, Grocery, Dairy freezer, and General Merchandise including displays & ends, as required to ensure standards are maintained.
Undertake store walks at strategic times of the day.
This includes entering departments, noting tasks to be undertaken, and liaising with the Department champion or team members to ensure these duties are completed.
A follow-up at some stage later is required to see if the list has indeed been completed and the department is up to standard.
Deal with customer complaints in a professional manner.
Ability to undertake emergency procedures/requirements as/if required.
Work with and beside employees in the various departments on a regular basis to develop a full knowledge of what is expected so support can be provided as/if required.
Undertake all Customer Service duties including till operation, providing excellent customer service, and balancing of cash register as required ensuring customer queues are kept to a minimum.
Accountable for ensuring all cash registers are locked in the safe and the accurate dispensing of change as required.
Opening and/or closing of Store if required and the security around this process.
Ensure 2 employees assist with the lock-up of the Store.
Please note that no groceries are to be carried out at this time by either employee.
Understand fridge alarms and how to locate and fix.

QUALIFICATIONS AND WORK SKILL REQUIREMENTS - desired but not essential First Aid certificate.
Food safety Certificate.
Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) certificate.
Demonstrated working knowledge and experience of managing retail outlets.
Management experience or ability to give direction, lead, and coach team members.
Demonstrated excellence in written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
The ability to work efficiently to a set routine and be thorough with its procedures.
Demonstrated attention to detail or ability to identify an issue and fix it.
