It will work closely with teams working in London, Washington DC and Singapore and work alongside a small team of journalists already based in Sydney covering Australian news.
The team will be expected to run live pages on the biggest moving stories, produce news stories and sharp angles in text and video, curate different editions of the website and the BBC News app and work with BBC correspondents and reporters around the world to bring our reporting to millions of people.

The role will involve overseeing daily news coverage across our digital platforms and local managerial responsibility for a Sydney-based team that includes digital output journalists, digital reporters, a growth analyst and a small streaming operation. It will also oversee management of a small team of journalists covering Australian news.
You will lead two key areas of focus for the team. Firstly, an operation that can respond to the biggest breaking news overnight for global audiences coming to the site, cementing our reputation for live and breaking news and making the most of the scale of our global reporting.
This operation will also, crucially, develop our digital offer and curation during UK overnight hours to ensure that UK morning audiences wake up to a high quality, well-edited, up-to-date and rich offer that sets up the news day.
This role will be crucial in driving the team that delivers all of this.
