Remuneration: $122,850 - $139,559 per annum + 11.5% super + Salary packaging Employment Type: Permanent Full TimePosition Classification: Health Mgr Lvl 3Location: Negotiable - Tamworth or NewcastleHours Per Week: 38Requisition ID: REQ513730Closing Date: Wednesday, 2nd October 2024About the team: The Hunter New England Local Health District (HNELHD) New Street Service is part of NSW Health's child protection services and provides a specialised, early intervention, community-based service to address harmful sexual behaviours displayed by 10-17-year-old young people, who, for a range of reasons, have not been criminally prosecuted. The program includes a specific focus on improving outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and children and young people in Out of Home Care. The Service Manager New Street will provide operational management and clinical coordination of the New Street Service in the HNELHD across two sites, Tamworth and Newcastle. Staff at these sites provide outreach across the district. The service consists of a Senior Clinician and Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal clinicians as well as administration staff. The team is committed to making a meaningful difference in the lives of children and their families. We operate with a small, close-knit group of professionals, both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal, who are passionate about their work and supportive of one another. Our staff re highly skilled, reflective and effective in providing specialised therapeutic intervention to young people and families.
About the role: The Service Manager leads and manages the human, financial and physical resources across the LHD in accordance with agreed performance indicators. The role ensures service delivery aligns with best practice and emerging developments in the field. There is need for regular travel between Tamworth and Newcastle to ensure staff are supported and the sites are functioning optimally. Ensuring the service is cultural safe and accessible to Aboriginal children, young people and families is a high priority for this position. This is an exciting and innovative role, with opportunities to trial new initiatives to improve responses to children and young people with problematic and harmful sexual behaviour, following recommendations from the Royal Commission into Child Sexual Abuse in institutional settings. This position has membership to the District Violence Abuse and Neglect Leadership team and will be well supported by peers who are equally skilled, committed, and professional in their work. The position is closely connected to a statewide network of other New Street Service Managers and co-ordinators which is clinically lead by the Children and Young People Sexual Safety Program with Sydney Children's Hospital Network. This includes opportunities for ongoing professional development in the field.
About you: This position will suit someone who is passionate about intervening early in the lives of children and young people so to improve safety, reduce re-harming and meeting their overall wellbeing needs. Working with parents and carers is integral to the model. Well developed skills and experience leading staff in the provision of violence, abuse and neglect services will be highly valued. The position also requires courage and innovation to evolve service delivery, manage change, design and implement new projects as well promote commitment to continuing professional development.Requirements: Bachelor's degree or higher in Social Work with eligibility for membership to the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) or bachelor's degree or higher in Psychology with current full registration with the Psychology Board of Australia or bachelor's degree or higher in Counselling with registration with the appropriate professional body. Current unrestricted Australian drivers' license, and a willingness to travel regularly between the two service sites (Tamworth and Newcastle) which may include overnight stays.
