Our Energy Management Department is looking for an Optimisation Engineer to join its Australian Market team.
Neoen currently has over 2.5 GW of wind, solar and battery storage assets in operations in Australia, and aims to reach 5 GW of assets in operations or under construction by 2025. The Energy Management team mission is to optimize operating assets in the energy markets and to support Neoen's expansion plans. The team is defined by a combination of market expertise, advanced quantitative capabilities and software development skills.
Neoen develops and maintains an automated bidding system that optimizes its growing portfolio of operating assets, in particular large-scale storage assets, in the Australian National Electricity Market and Western Australia Wholesale Electricity Market. This system is based on a suite of forecasting and optimisation algorithms that aims to continuously maximize the value of our assets across the range of services they can provide (energy arbitrage, frequency regulation and contingency services, network services).
Your role will be to contribute to the development of the optimisation algorithm and its efficient implementation on Neoen Australia's operating fleet of assets. This will include:
Analysing operating asset's market performance, challenging current strategies and identifying improvements. Developing the optimisation algorithms, as well as appropriate bidding strategies, for a fleet of assets. These will need to account for a number of challenging factors: operating constraints, hedging strategy against Neoen's innovative contractual schemes, market power of large-scale storage assets in shallow FCAS markets. Implementing these algorithms within Neoen's automated bidding system, respecting modern software development standards in terms of reliability and testability (TDD, Continuous Integration). Coordinating with Neoen's 24/7 Operating Control Center for the deployment on operating assets, ensuring that the strategies are manageable by the controllers. Developing the necessary data analysis tools to analyse Neoen's portfolio performance as well as market environment. Additionally, you will also leverage your quantitative skills to foster the development of Neoen's interval long-term revenue models and to support Neoen Australia development teams in bringing to the market new wind, solar and BESS projects.
