About the Role
*This is a Full Time Ongoing Position*
With an area covering 20 municipalities across western Victoria, including the regional cities of Geelong, Ballarat, Warrnambool and Horsham, Avalon Airport and the ports of Geelong and Portland, significant tourist destinations such as the Great Ocean Road and Grampians (Gariwerd) National Park and significant freight corridors servicing Western Victoria and beyond, Barwon South-West Grampians Region has a diverse range of transport needs and challenges.
As a Movement and Safety Engineer, your key priorities include:
Developing solutions, recommendations and responses to road safety and traffic management issues and influencing transport project outcomes.
Providing timely and sound technical advice to the community and a range of internal and external stakeholders
Applying engineering and safe system competence to investigate road crashes in accordance with DTP's policies and procedures in the fatal crash report system
Assessing and implementing speed zoning and signing changes.
Assisting other team members in the development/delivery of minor safety treatments and network improvements.

– Provides clear advice on the status of the program, projects and issues affecting delivery. Consider and recommend options to improve program and project delivery.

– The incumbent's expertise and knowledge has contributed to the planning and management of regional road safety and innovative road safety improvement solutions have been identified on the network.
External Stakeholder Satisfaction
– a key source of knowledge for road safety advice and influence within their portfolio. Gains the respect of stakeholders and is regarded as a subject matter expert in the field.
Internal Stakeholder Satisfaction
– Developed strong partnerships with key internal stakeholders and focuses on understanding stakeholder issues. A positive working environment has been established with high levels of trust and collaboration.
Systematic approach
- uses various tools to identify emerging transport network issues to help shape priorities and challenges aligned with organisational goals.
Creative and advanced problem-solving
- resolves complex road safety issues in line with the safe system approach including promoting innovative ways to address behavioural issues and applying principles-based decision making.

Key Selection Criteria
To be successful in the role the ideal candidate will be proficient in applying local and advanced knowledge to enhance engineering activities and solutions, ensuring safety and efficiency in the transport system. They will excel in systematically evaluating engineering outcomes, collaborating with stakeholders for design processes, and applying critical thinking to solve problems. Additionally, they will navigate organizational pressures, influence effectively, work collaboratively, and tailor communications to diverse audiences.

On a personal level the candidate will be adaptable, embracing changing priorities and responding swiftly to new situations. Qualifications and Experience
Mandatory
Bachelor's degree and/or extensive experience in a relevant Engineering discipline.
Experience relevant to the capabilities of the role.
A relevant tertiary qualification in engineering, project management or a related discipline.
Road Safety accreditation course(s) and understanding of Safe System practices.
