Microbiologist Full-time position Analytical Laboratories and Technical Services Australia (ALTSA ) is a NATA accredited multi-laboratory facility servicing regional Australia. Based in the picturesque and family friendly location of Mildura, this position offers fantastic facilities, a great team, and the quality lifestyle of a well-serviced city in the country on the banks of the majestic Murray River. Agriculture is booming and ALTSA is at the heart of it all.
Microbiology & Molecular Biology Lab Due to the growing demand for our services, an exciting & challenging science opportunity has become available. Our team of professional scientists requires the support of a Microbiologist to join our team.
Your duties would include but are not limited to:
Sample receivals, weighing and sample preparation. Operation of analytical equipment and the application of microbiological and molecular biology techniques. Assist with maintaining NATA accreditation and extending the scope of accredited testing. General cleaning of glassware and plasticware as well as the laboratory area generally. Calibration of equipment and maintaining related records. Perform maintenance on instruments under supervision and recording of all maintenance issues. Maintain consumables inventory and perform housekeeping tasks. Training others as directed. To be successful in this role you must: Be capable of performing physically demanding and repetitive work in a fast-paced environment. Be able to manage time effectively and at speed, while maintaining accuracy, to identify and solve problems and to prioritise tasks. Have general computer skills including a good knowledge of MS packages and good communication skills. Have the ability to work reliably with minimal supervision and in a team environment. Have a commitment to workplace health and safety. Selection Criteria: Tertiary degree in Microbiology or relevant field. Ideally have previous experience in a commercial laboratory. Experience in Molecular testing methods such as PCR or sequencing would be well regarded. Remuneration will be negotiated with the successful candidate based on experience and qualifications.
