About Your Role The Mental Health Emergency Consultation and Support (MHECS) Clinician is part of a multidisciplinary team. The MHECS Clinician is responsible for coordinating and delivering emergency mental health consultations, assessments and support services to persons (including their family, and/or carers) who are experiencing acute mental health crisis in the MLHD. The MHECS Clinician together with the on-call consultant psychiatrist develop a plan to assist, support and guide the emergency department clinicians in 32 hospitals across MLHD in managing mental health consumers' risk, medications and plans for ongoing care.
The MHECS Clinician will also be required to complete duties as a Police Ambulance Clinician Early Response (PACER) Clinician. The PACER service involves conducting emergency assessments in community settings with police and ambulance services. This work occurs in person in Wagga and is conducted via virtual platforms across the district.
The MHECS Clinician is an experienced clinician who possesses extensive specialist knowledge within mental health. They have advanced reasoning skills and operate autonomously with minimum direct clinical supervision. They are able to apply professional knowledge and judgement when performing novel, complex or critical tasks. Staff at this level are expected to exercise independent professional judgement when required in solving problems and managing cases where principles, procedures, techniques and methods require expansion, adaptation or modification.
The MHECS Clinician will demonstrate the ability to act as a professional role model, delivering a high level capacity for patient advocacy and cost benefit practice while demonstrating the ability to act as a change agent. They will provide effective clinical leadership and the ability to practice as an autonomous professional and the capacity to work within a multidisciplinary team environment. The MHECS Clinician will assist in allocating workloads and work through complex mental health presentations with other clinicians providing the best possible outcomes.
