About the opportunity Are you looking for a technical officer role in a clinical research setting? The NSW Health Statewide Biobank is looking for an enthusiastic, organised and versatile individual to join their laboratory team in a temporary full-time capacity. The successful applicant will be joining a team of scientists, technicians, researchers and managers to ensure the delivery of high quality and timely services to the health and medical research community in NSW.
The role is laboratory-based. The hours range from 9:00-5:30 and 10:30 to 7:00 and are allocated based on work-load requirements. On-call shifts are also required.

The Biobank Research Technical Officer will perform a range of laboratory technical tasks related to biobanking of human samples by applying established methods and procedures as directed. Contribute to the generation of scientific research data and manuscripts. Undertake other laboratory duties including preparation of materials and the maintenance of equipment in line with established laboratory processes, procedures and protocols.
This position will report to the NSWHSB Biobank Research Scientist and work closely with the NSWHSB Laboratory Manager, the NSWHSB Quality Manager and interact with the NSWHP Pathology Laboratories at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital (RPAH) to deliver quality research services.
Minimum Qualifications Minimum qualification of Diploma in Laboratory Technology or an equivalent qualification from a recognised tertiary institution with subjects relevant to pathology or medical laboratory operations.Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the area of molecular biology, virology, histology including practical laboratory experience (e.g. nucleic acid extraction, PCR, PBMCs, Tissue Microarrays, staining), experience handling clinical specimens and computer programs such as Microsoft Office suite including Access and laboratory information systems.Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the differences between diagnostic and research laboratory settings and of the ethical and regulatory requirements working with human tissue for medical research.Customer focused approach displaying well-developed interpersonal skills and good oral and written communication skills, including experience writing standard operating procedures (SOPs), the ability to effectively communicate policies and procedures.Demonstrated high level organisational skills, attention to detail, ability to deliver accurate and complete documentation.Experience applying quality improvement initiatives to workplace practices and procedures.Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment whilst working autonomously to deliver results within specified timeframes set to meet client expectations and manage competing priorities.Need more information?
