The role is a primary contact point for traditional, new and emerging media agencies and focuses on delivering impactful, timely and engaging communications content.ResponsibilitiesKEY RESPONSIBILITIES:Develop and maintain strong relationships in a highly political environment with a broad range of stakeholders, including other levels of Government, to deliver quality communications content.In collaboration with the Team Leader Communications & Engagement provide advice to the CEO, Executive Team and Councillors on media related issues.Represent the Communications and Engagement Team and its many functions within the organisation under a business partnering model.Day-to-day media management including assessing and preparing responses for reactive media requests, proactive media opportunities, and edit outgoing media, digital, social media, and editorial communications items.Take responsibility for the crafting, development, writing, editing, proofing, sourcing of quotes, production, and budgeting of relevant pieces of collateral, for a variety of audiences, required as part of communication campaigns, web content and strategies.Use creative storytelling and content development skills (including written, visual and video assets) to deliver engaging and informative content across multiple communications channels and audiences.Monitor the new and traditional media environment for emerging issues with potential impacts for Council.
Provide issues management and crisis communications advice.Identify and develop proactive opportunities to increase positive coverage of AlburyCity projects and initiatives in alignment with the AlburyCity Brand and Communications Strategies.Attend Council and Committee meetings as required.Perform other tasks or duties as directed by the Supervisor which are within the limits of the employee's skill, competence and training.Observe requirements of the WHS Legislation, relevant to the job and adhere to AlburyCity Policies and Procedures regarding WHS.Observe appropriate AlburyCity Policies and Procedures regarding day to day operations including Equal Employment Opportunity policies, AlburyCity's Dress Code and Standards Policy and AlburyCity's Code of Conduct.QualificationsKEY RELATIONSHIPS:InternalOur PeopleMayor & CouncillorsExternalOur communityTraditional, new, and emerging media agenciesCommunity stakeholder groupsGovernment agenciesOther CouncilsEmployment ConditionsBased on a 35-hour week, with actual days and times being Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 5:00pm, with an RDO in accordance with AlburyCity's RDO guidelines.This position may involve work outside normal working hours.
Additional hours over the standard hours will attract a time in lieu arrangement or payment of overtime rates as agreed in advance with your supervisor.This position does not require you to wear a compulsory uniform, however you must follow the dress code requirements within the AlburyCity's Our People Dress Code Standards.
Our People are required to present a smart and professional image to the public at all times including when in public and when working remotely.This position involves working in a predominantly indoor environment and using a computer is considered a core component of the role.
The position requires an average level of aerobic and physical fitness to undertake occasional physical activities, including manual handling tasks as part of a normal working environment.
A medical declaration will be required to be completed prior to commencement.This position is subject to alcohol and other drug testing.This position is located at the AlburyCity Administration Building, 553 Kiewa Street, Albury with frequent visits to external sites/depots as required.Essential CriteriaTertiary qualification in Communications/Marketing, Journalism or Public Relations or equivalent relevant work experience.Class C (standard) Driver's Licence (compulsory to have and maintain).Desirable CriteriaAdobe suite of products including video editing and graphic design.Social media experience.Digital communications experience.ExperienceExperience in corporate communications, journalism, public relations, media, digital communications, or marketing.Local Government experience highly desirable.Specialist Knowledge And SkillsA strong track record in developing and implementing media and public relations plans.Demonstrated ability to create rich content across all communication platforms, both online and offline.Flair, imagination and creativity in the marketing/promotional/communications field.High level of computer literacy in the use of a variety of software applications including MS Office Suite, web-based products and presentation software.About UsOur Organisation: We are the facilitator of a thriving, resilient and liveable city full of opportunities and the custodians of an environment like no other.
