Karara Mining Limited (KML) is an Ansteel Group company formed as a joint venture with Gindalbie Metals Limited. Ansteel is one of the largest iron ore producers and steel makers in China. Located 200km south-east of Geraldton, Western Australia, Karara is the largest mining operation and the first major magnetite mine in the Mid-West. It produces a premium, high-grade concentrate product for export to steelmakers.
The opportunity This is a permanent site-based position for a Mechanical Engineer to join our Operational Optimisation Department.
Working on a Full-time 8 days on and 6 days off FIFO roster from Perth.
This newly created position, reporting to the Senior Engineer, plays a pivotal role in enhancing the productivity of the magnetite processing plant.
To be successful in the role, the following is essential: Recognised Degree qualification in Mechanical EngineeringWA "C" Class manual driver's licenceMinimum 3 years' mining experience in mechanical engineering within a processing plant environment (preferably Magnetite processing)Demonstrable success in applying engineering principles and statistical data analysis and implementing processesFamiliarity with Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and 5 Whys work process methods and toolsComputer literacy, with proficiency in CMMS Maintenance Systems (preferably SAP) and the MS Office suiteWell-developed written and verbal communication skills, with attention to detailNational Police ClearanceTo be eligible to apply for this role you must be legally permitted to work permanently in Australia. Collaborating with the maintenance team, to ensure equipment reliability aligns with operational targets for cost, production, and safetyEngineer solutions for plant performance and reliability issues, creating optimization opportunities to meet Australian standards, regulatory, and statutory requirementsEncourage engineers and contractors to resolve issues affecting production and equipment operation through effective solution executionConduct regular inspections to proactively identify potential problemsPromote continuous improvement in maintenance systems for enhanced equipment performanceAbout Karara Mining Located 200 km south-east of Geraldton in the Shire of Perenjori, Western Australia Karara has an expected mine life of 30+ years. The operation includes a large open pit mine, complex ore processing and beneficiation plant and significant infrastructure and logistics networks. As part of the logistics network Karara owns and operates 80km of railway between Tilley Junction and the Karara mine site, linking the Karara Export Terminal at the Port of Geraldton, able to handle up to 16 Mtpa of export product from a dedicated berth, with associated rail and train unloading infrastructure.
