Ongoing VPS Grade 3.2 position • Based at the Melbourne Magistrates' Court with opportunities to work at other Drug Court locations including regional Victoria.

About Us Court Services Victoria provides corporate services and facilities to support the performance of the judicial, quasi-judicial and administrative functions of Victoria's courts and tribunal, Judicial College and Judicial Commission.
Collectively, Victoria's Supreme, County, Magistrates', Children's, and Coroners courts, the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT), the Judicial College of Victoria, the Judicial Commission of Victoria, and Court Services Victoria (CSV) are referred to as the 'Courts Group'.
The Magistrates' Court of Victoria (MCV) is a jurisdiction within the Court Services Victoria statutory authority and has a long history of providing justice for the people of Victoria in metropolitan and regional courts across the state. The Court determines in excess of 300,000 cases per annum at 51 venues, equating to approximately 90 percent of all cases that come before Victorian courts each year. The Court aims to be an innovative, accessible, and responsive court that provides quality services to the Victorian community.
The Drug Court is a statutory division of the Magistrates' Court of Victoria and part of MCV Specialist Courts and Programs. The division provides an alternative sentencing option to offenders with drug and/or alcohol dependency who have committed offence/s whilst under the influence of drugs or alcohol and/or to support their dependency.
Drug Court administers Drug and Alcohol Treatment Orders (DATO) under section 18Z of the Sentencing Act 1991. Participants on a DATO receive a judicially supervised, therapeutically oriented, intensive and integrated drug supervision and treatment regime, which focuses on improving many aspects of their lives including drug dependency, physical & mental health, homelessness, education and employment, self-esteem and family and social relationships.
About the Role The Drug Court Registrar works with the Magistrate and a multi-disciplinary team within a solution-focused court environment.
The role reports to the Drug Court Registry Manager and performs a wide range of administrative tasks in the Court registry. Tasks may include in-court (bench clerk) duties, participant-contact (telephone and counter) enquiries, administrative responsibilities, and statistical and other reporting about the operations of the Drug Court.
The Drug Court Registrar is also required to exercise powers conferred to Registrars under the Magistrates' Court Act 1989. These powers involve the preparation and processing of administrative and statutory documentation. The Drug Court Registrar may also exercise professional judgement in applying quasi-judicial and statutory powers in accordance with legislative requirements, established rules and precedents, and the Court's Practice Directions.
About You You will have a Certificate IV in Government (Court Services) or equivalent and will be willing to travel to alternate sites as required.
