The Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority
We are seeking an experienced environmental professional to join our maritime incident response team, working to protect the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park through the management of maritime environmental incidents.

You will undertake the management of maritime environmental incidents in accordance with relevant legislation, policies and guidelines; make recommendations; and provide advice on environmental, cultural and World Heritage Area use related matters. You will be responsible for a range of moderately complex tasks with a key focus on taking a risk-based approach to maritime environmental response, including recommending mitigation and management of response activities and provision of post-impact advice.

The position participates in the development of, and training related to guidelines, policies and procedures for best practice vessel casualty management, spill response and related activities. The position will participate in the development and maintenance of relationships between Traditional Owners, the Reef Authority and other managing agencies on maritime incident management and related sea country matters.

Be a problem solver with an eye for detail and proven ability to manage competing tasks, balance conflicting priorities, and meet established timeframes.Have skill sets and expertise that are applicable in marine environmental management, ideally with a thorough understanding of the cultural, environmental, and economic values of the Great Barrier Reef and how maritime environmental incidents may impact those values.Have, or are interested in developing, a knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, in particular, traditional cultural issues encompassing natural resource use and practices that may be affected by maritime environmental incidents.Be adept at building and maintaining effective working relationships within work groups and with external agencies or service providers.Be capable of working with limited direction, applying judgement and logic appropriately.This interesting and varied role will see you:
Apply working knowledge of precedent and established legislation, policy, procedures, and operational guidance to manage and coordinate environment-focused responses to routine maritime incidents that may impact the World Heritage Area in line with Program, State, and National arrangements.Assist with interpretation, drafting, and implementation of policy, procedure, and operational guidance used by the Reef Authority and Program's response to maritime incidents.Provide advice, interpretation, and decision support within the environmental, scientific, and technical aspects of maritime incidents of all scales, to influence internal and external decision makers and inform stakeholders through the provision of specialist and technical advice that is informed, timely, practical, transparent, and risk based.Liaise with internal and external stakeholders on project and operational issues.Assist and participate in in-field assessment, mitigation, and remediation operations as required.Assist and participate in development and delivery of maritime incident response training. Build and disseminate knowledge of own area of expertise, mentor and coach less experienced staff.How to Apply
