With a culturally diverse campus life and extensive international exchange and research programs, UTS prepares graduates for the workplaces of today and tomorrow.About the RoleReporting to the Deputy Director, Research Office, this position is responsible for leading the identification, exploration, strategic development and support for externally-funded major research initiatives (normally multi-million dollars in value) and opportunities in a coordinated and proactive way across the university, ensuring that such opportunities are developed with robust internal planning and processes.If successful in applying for this role, you will be responsible for: Proactively working with university researchers in areas of strength and opportunity including research centres and institutes to develop major initiatives research funding plans.
Scan and identify potential external funding opportunities for major research initiatives and develop and report on a university pipeline for proactive planning and development.Lead the coordination of and provide overall program management for UTS major funding proposals and multi-institutional research collaborations such as Industry Transformation Research Program (Hubs and Centres), Linkage Infrastructure Equipment and Facilities (LIEF), ARC Centres of Excellence, Global Innovation Linkages, strategic tenders, other competitive and non-competitive Government programs at state or national level that arise from time to time.Develop, coordinate, and support the development of major research proposals (including conceptualisation and preparation of the bid framework), providing strategic advice to the researcher team including workshop facilitation/ coordination, bid writing where required, working with lead researchers to scope the project and synthesise the content, reviewing final draft proposals (including budgets), coordinating internal and external strategic reviews, approvals, and final submissions.Review proposals/applications (including budgets) for compliance and fit against internal policies and external funding guidelines and diplomatically provide appropriate and sound feedback and advice to researchers, including for resourcing implications and risks.Facilitate high level discussion and/or negotiation and productive relationships with internal University staff and with external stakeholders, including external partners, funders, and government advisors.Performs work activities relevant to the role's key accountabilities or other work responsibilities as requested by Deputy Director, or Director as commensurate to the role classification level.With examples, please outline within a separate document how you meet the following key selection criteria: Excellent organisational and project management skills with proven ability to successfully manage multiple projects with competing timelines, prioritise tasks and meet deadlines in a demanding environment, with a focus on accuracy and a high level of attention to detail; ensure effective completion of tasks within deadlines.Excellent strategic, conceptual, and analytical skills, including demonstrated ability to assimilate new concepts and information and deliver positive and sustainable outcomes for major research initiatives and innovative solutions.Exceptional oral and written communication skills as demonstrated by the development of funding proposals, business plans, reports, and recommendations for action for senior stakeholders.Substantial experience in the development of large-scale, multi-million dollar, multi-institutional externally funded research proposals (e.g.
ARC Centres of Excellence, Industrial Transformation Research Program Projects, Cooperative Research Centres, NHMRC Centres of Research Excellence, tender submissions or other large research consortia or multi-party ventures).Demonstrated high level capacity to work with and support researchers in the preparation of business plans and budgets for major research projects and programs, preferably in a research, technology-rich or university environment.Excellent knowledge of the higher education and research sector in Australia, including related State and Government policies, and an awareness of major national and international research trends.Remuneration & Benefits Base Salary Range: $136,830 to $143,345 pa (HEW 9) This role attracts 17% superannuation (pension) in addition to the base salary.UTS staff also benefit from a wide range of Employee Benefits include flexible work practices, child care centres, generous parental leave and salary packaging opportunities.This position is full-time and appointment will be made on a continuing basis.
