An exciting new role for an experienced Data Science specialist to join the Reporting and Intelligence team to lead the development and implementation of Data Science and AI roadmap at the Cancer Institute NSW that advances patient-centred care and improves outcomes for cancer patients in NSW. What you'll be doing The Manager, Data Science and Insights drives innovation by a) leading the development and application of emerging analytic techniques to answer key questions about cancer service delivery and health policy and b) leading the implementation of established analytic techniques in untested contexts and in response to emerging questions.
This role is also instrumental in ensuring analytic insights are shared and clearly communicated; and supporting analytic capability-building throughout the CINSW and the NSW Public Health System.
In this role you will be required to:
Drive continuous learning across CINSW regarding how AI and data science can add value to CINSW work; and promulgate good data science practice.Lead the development, validation and testing of effective complex approaches relating to AI, data mining, machine learning, statistical modelling and data visualisation for generating insights.Work with stakeholders to define requirements, and lead the development and implementation of the organisational wide analytical tools and products using the latest technology.Ensure findings from statistical analyses and developmental projects are disseminated to end users within CINSW; and, where appropriate, support their application and translation into routine operations.Ensure appropriate quality assurance and data governance processes for data and information.Essential to the role will be your ability to manage communications and relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to identify longer term Analytics and AI requirements, influence and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to facilitate the development of sustainable AI and Analytics systems and solutions that will support present and future of cancer intelligence.

A covering letter outlining your suitability and interest in the roleA response to the Essential Requirements, as outlined in the Role DescriptionA response to the Pre-screening questions, as outlined below.Relevant tertiary qualifications and extensive experience in computer science, machine learning or a related discipline, preferably a doctorate degree in Computer Science or Data Science.Expertise in programming languages, such as SQL for data transformation; R, Python.Superior analytical skills including demonstrated ability conducting extensive data analysis and interpretation of healthcare evidence and improvement strategies; developing and validating methods and tools of health system performance; preparing and presenting analysis and reports.Demonstrated experience in the creation and maintenance of appropriate data repositories, such as data lakes, and development, validation and testing of effective approaches relating to data mining and analysis, machine learning, statistical modelling and data visualisation.Demonstrated experience in all aspects of project management and implementation including management of multiple and concurrent complex projects with conflicting milestones and deadlines and leading multidisciplinary project teams.
This includes the ability to motivate and influence staff collaborating on projects, particularly those who may not have direct reporting relationships.Highly developed interpersonal skills with demonstrated experience developing effective professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders including liaising with and influencing stakeholders in the achievement of organisational goals.Advanced oral and written communication, interpersonal, negotiation, consultation and presentation skills.If successful for interview candidates must bring original copies of essential qualifications to be sighted by the panel, and one copy to provide to the panel.
