Reporting to the General Manager, Infrastructure & Major Projects, this position is responsible for the management of the City Services Unit, which is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the Council's public realm including civil infrastructure, sports grounds, street trees, reserves, open spaces and streetscapes. This is an important leadership position within Council requiring internal collaboration and managing relationships with important contractors who provide services such as waste management and street sweeping, with a strong focus on innovation, efficiency, and service excellence and safety.In achieving the outcomes expected of this position, you manage a significant annual tree planting program and oversee the maintenance of the City's much-loved open spaces, such as Felixstow Reserve, Lunde Reserve, and the maintenance of award-winning streetscapes, such as St Peters Street and Ninth Avenue.The Council has an ambitious program of new capital projects, streetscapes, etc., and the maintenance component of these projects is fundamental to the success of these projects.The ideal candidate will be a genuine and effective leader, with strong commercial and financial acumen. Your excellent leadership and communication skills must be complemented by your ability to create and drive cohesive and collaborative work groups aligned to organisational standards and expectations. You must demonstrate experience managing contracts, contractors, and service agreements, as well as motivating and empowering staff and external stakeholders to achieve common goals. While a background in Local Government would be advantageous, it is not essential for this role.
