The team The Finance Group provides a range of strategic advice and financial support services to both internal and external stakeholders. Finance assists with resource management, business planning, and decision-making, ensuring compliance with statutory financial reporting obligations, and contributing significantly to strategic and enterprise-level projects.
The Budget Strategy team has a strong focus on strategic budgeting at an organisational level, including future year budgets, and is responsible for the preparation of both operational future year budget models and capital management planning. This team is also responsible for Departmental figures contained in the Portfolio Budget Statements and managing the submission of New Policy Proposal costings, including liaising with central agencies. This team also prepares and coordinates Executive and Commission reporting requirements, including various ad hoc analysis in collaboration with the Finance Business Partnering team.
The role You will be accountable for:
Contributing to external reporting requirements to the Department of Finance and Treasury for the Budget process and consulting with these agencies as required. Partnering with staff in business units and senior executives for the development of new policy proposals funding bids. Assisting with managing a cyclical process of capital budgeting and capital planning to manage property and infrastructure expense and investment strategies to improve business operations. Extracting data from financial and HR systems and performing analysis, drafting, and contributing to the development of financial papers and reports presented to Executive and Commission. Driving process improvements and taking initiative in implementing changes. Developing and maintaining relationships with stakeholders (internal and external) including other ASIC teams and government agencies and supporting the Senior Managers for Budget Strategy and Finance Business Partnering with ad hoc information requirements. About you A qualification in Business, Commerce, or Finance and a CPA or CA qualification will be highly beneficial. Experience and good understanding of work relating to Government Budget process and key reporting requirements, management accounting, external government reporting and related systems, preparation of costing for new policy proposals, internal budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis. Experience in preparing management reports, budgets, and forecasts using ERP and Budgeting systems. Demonstrated strong business writing skills and experience in implementing process improvement and achieving successful change. Excellent analytical skills with the ability to organise, analyse, and disseminate financial information with strong attention to detail and accuracy will be highly beneficial. Communicate effectively to all audiences in both written and verbal formats to achieve intended purposes with strong customer service and stakeholder management experience including building and utilising networks and relationships and with the ability to partner and work effectively with other ASIC teams to meet objectives. Intermediate to Advanced Microsoft Office skills, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.
