About the ROLE You are one of two Magistrates Associates that work primarily out of court to support the Magistracy directly providing the Magistracy with legal assistance, including legal research, issue analysis, legal opinions, judgment analysis and editorial assistance.
Monitoring and assessing the changing legal landscape by providing notice and assessments of new legislation and relevant cases.
The Associates chair the Rules Committee, engaging with issues identified with the court's rules and forms that are either existing or in response to new law.
About the ORGANISATION The Courts Administration Authority (CAA) is an independent statutory authority that provides the judiciary and participating courts with services and facilities to support the proper administration of justice.
Special Conditions: This is a short-term contract up to 12 months, with possible extension. Appointment is under the Courts Administration Act 1993.
Terms and conditions of employment are governed by the Public Sector Act 2009. Appointment is dependent upon a current National Police Certificate that the CAA finds satisfactory. As a justice agency the CAA may receive details of spent convictions as part of any Criminal History Screening and use this information in the selection process. Appointees may be directed to disclose their COVID-19 vaccination status. May be directed to work at any court sitting place or business unit on an as required basis. Undertake work related intrastate travel, which may require driving a motor vehicle and overnight absences. May occasionally be required to work outside of the normal hours of work. A Bachelor of Laws Degree The following levels apply:
For appointment at the JUA1 level: un-admitted practitioner. For appointment at the JUA2 level: admitted to practice in the Supreme Court of South Australia (i.e.
successful completion of a Graduate Diploma or Certificate in Legal Practice). For appointment at the JUA3 level: a minimum of one year's practicing experience as a legal practitioner after being admitted to practice in the State of South Australia. Remuneration: JUA1 ($60,931); JUA2 ($67,589); JUA3 ($69,807) per annum
