About the Role: We are seeking a Local Transport Manager to join our client's Senior Management team and lead the operational performance of the Local General Division for Road Transport. This pivotal role focuses on strategic leadership, efficient resource allocation, and ensuring compliance with industry standards to deliver exceptional service and operational reliability.
Key Responsibilities: Operational Leadership : Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Local Transport team, ensuring optimal fleet utilisation, resource allocation, and freight tracking. Strategic Oversight : Collaborate with senior management to implement operational strategies aligned with company objectives. Deliver on KPIs, budget targets, and contractual service agreements. Customer & Stakeholder Management : Act as the primary point of contact for local transport operations, maintaining strong relationships with clients, contractors, and internal stakeholders to ensure smooth service delivery. Compliance & Safety : Drive adherence to NHVAS Maintenance, Fatigue, and Mass Management Systems, along with Chain of Responsibility (CoR) and workplace safety requirements. Team Development : Mentor and coach team members to enhance skills and operational efficiency, while maintaining a proactive and collaborative team culture. Continuous Improvement : Identify and implement systemic enhancements to drive operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Qualifications & Experience Required: Extensive experience in road transport management within large-scale or multi-site operations. Strong understanding of NHVR regulations, load restraint requirements , and Chain of Responsibility (CoR) principles. Proven leadership skills with the ability to inspire, motivate, and manage teams effectively. High-level commercial acumen, strategic planning, and problem-solving capabilities. Exceptional interpersonal, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills. Demonstrated ability to manage complex operations while delivering on KPIs and cost targets. Desirable Experience: Exposure to general freight, bulk freight, or heavy haulage operations. Familiarity with PBS systems, permit requirements, and road access compliance.
