Light Vehicle Mechanic (Day Shift Available) Permanent, full-time Lake Mac Council is seeking an experienced Light Vehicle Mechanic to join our skilled Workshop team for an immediate start.
LET'S EXPLORE THE JOB We are seeking an experienced and customer-focused Light Vehicle Mechanic to join our Workshop Team at Lake Macquarie City Council.
You will be responsible for carrying out the efficient and effective maintenance of Council's plant and fleet assets.
This includes scheduled and unplanned servicing, repairs and modifications, as well as undertaking RMS registration and compliance inspections.
A key focus of the role is to provide a high level of customer service in undertaking these activities whilst emphasizing safety, quality assurance, and integrity in all areas.
Using the latest diagnostic scan tools, you will join a dedicated and diverse team of highly skilled automotive professionals who pride themselves on our reputation for safety compliance, efficiency, and quality of work.
This exciting role will: Ensure plant and fleet servicing, repairs, modifications, RMS registration, and safety inspections are completed in accordance with NSW statutory requirements, National Heavy Vehicle Accreditation Scheme (NHVAS) standards, and Council's processes; Carry out automotive air conditioning service and repairs; Support the training, direct and supervise apprentices by demonstrating high-quality work, safe work practices, and fault diagnostics; Minimize unplanned maintenance of Council's assets by reporting observed faults/defects to the team supervisor and suggesting improvements to procedures, practices, or new methods; Carry out risk assessments for all work performed and contribute to the development of work method statements outlining safe ways to work.
You will be based at our well-equipped Depot Workshop in Boolaroo NSW but may be required to work and travel across multiple sites on day shift (6:00 am to 3:15 pm).

LET'S HEAR ABOUT YOU You will hold a Certificate III Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology trade qualification and automotive air conditioning experience and related qualification(s); Having previously worked in a similar position, you have experience in servicing and repairing light vehicles and small and heavy plant equipment and machinery; Holding a current Class C driver's licence is a must; You currently hold an RMS unrestricted vehicle examiner's certificate or are willing and able to obtain the certificate; Have an understanding of computer maintenance management systems (CMMS); TAFE or industry post-trade qualifications in hydraulic systems, electronic controls, braking systems, and/or welding are desirable; Most of all, you're a team player with a positive can-do attitude.
LET'S REVEAL THE PERKSThis position provides: Competitive salary from $76,463 to $88,862 per annum plus industry-leading 12 percent superannuation This salary includes a market premium of up to $4,800 per annum which is reflective of the current competitive market and is subject to review in September 2027.
Tool allowance $38.00 per week Travel to work allowance up to $16.55 per week Adverse working conditions allowance $18.62 per week Enterprise Agreement pay increases apply; Commencing salary set in line with skills and experience with annual reviews available to support movement through the salary range; 35-hour working week, with the option to work your hours across 4 days per week as part of a flexible work trial; 15 days personal leave; 17.5% leave loading; Corporate fitness program from as little as $8 per week.
