Fantastic opportunities are available for experienced and professional Diversional or Recreational Therapists to join our organisation in Sydney as a Leisure and Lifestyle Therapist. These are permanent full-time positions based at our Hunters Hill and Randwick Campuses.
The RoleReporting to the Leisure & Lifestyle Group Senior, this exciting and unique role supports our residents to engage in meaningful occupations through the development and coordination of therapeutic activity and wellness programs.
Using a holistic approach, our therapists aim to empower and engage residents living in a residential aged care setting to have purposeful engagement. The therapist achieves this by tailoring activities and tasks to meet residents' cognitive and physical abilities. Activity programs are individualised and based on residents' current interests, values, and preferences.
Primary ResponsibilitiesAssist the progression and coordination of services towards a therapeutic model by integrating the Occupational Therapy and Recreational Therapy models of practice and enablement.Assist with assessing residents' cognitive abilities using Allen's Cognitive Levels.Prescribing non-pharmacological interventions for residents who require behavioural support to meet their cognitive or mental health needs.Actively contribute to the behaviour support pathway for residents with special behaviour needs, as part of a strong in-house interdisciplinary team.Create a holistic approach to the development and maintenance of 'better practice' leisure and lifestyle programs specifically designed for our residents, keeping up to date with recent literature and current best practices.Ensure that your department's accreditation status is maintained, as well as compliance with all legislative requirements.Provide supervision to assistant support level staff while maintaining a clinical caseload of a minimum of 70%.Qualifications & ExperienceDegree trained Occupational Therapist with eligibility for registration with AHPRA and compliance with the professional standards and code of ethics of Occupational Therapy Australia, ORExperienced Diversional therapist or other therapist with a strong Leisure & Lifestyle/Therapeutic Recreation related curriculum content.Eligibility for full membership of the Diversional & Recreation Therapy Australia and compliance with the professional standards of the Diversional Therapy profession.Previous experience in an aged care or mental health care environment, specifically working with residents who are living with dementia.Previous experience in the supervision of support level staff.Ability to complete activity analysis and a good knowledge of the meaning and diverse use of occupation.Proven ability to plan, implement, and evaluate programs for group and individual therapy.Willingness and ability to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team.High level organisational and time management skills.Intermediate level of computer competency across a range of programs including Microsoft Word & Excel.About UsMontefiore is an award-winning, Sydney-based aged care provider, with a proud 135-year history as a non-profit organisation founded on Jewish values.
