THE OPPORTUNITY
We are seeking an in-house Legal Specialist interested in using their legal and workers compensation experience to effectively manage and resolve claims where litigation is involved. Someone who wants to make a difference in supporting the effective management of our claims portfolio while still achieving a work/life balance.
The purpose of this role is to assist with the preparation and strategic management of work injury damages (WID) claims, manage statutory litigation in the Personal Injury Commission, and other legally based claims, undertake legal project work and provide legal support to EML's Nominal Insurer claims teams and policy holders.
The role reports to the Legal Manager, Working as part of a Claims Business Unit this role will be responsible for ensuring EML performance targets and organisational objectives are met providing a high level of service delivery to our stakeholders.
This will be a permanent, full time position based in the Sydney, Parramatta or Newcastle office with flexibility to work from home.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES Support the claims team by providing legal advice on legislative, regulatory, legal, policy and guidelines affecting workers' compensation claims to enable sound, evidence-based and legally accurate decision making.Work closely with the external legal panel providers to ensure a high level of legal advice, and effective litigation strategy to drive optimum outcomes.Attend legal proceedings as EML's representation together with the external Legal Provider representative.Participate in strategic review of claims portfolio, including presenting to employers about general legal concepts or individual cases.Keeping up to date with case law and precedents affecting claims, premium and the scheme. ABOUT YOU 1 - 3 years PQE, preferably working in a Workers Compensation team managing Work Injury Damages and Statutory Workers Compensation matters.Demonstrated experience in a similar legal role working within in a fast-paced business environment.Strong people and stakeholder management skills and experience.Current NSW practice certificate, highly regarded.
