We are partnering with a Professional Services Organisation in the search for a Team Leader for their Legal Investigations department. This is a 6 month contract and Working Holiday Visa holders are welcome to apply.
The Investigations Team is responsible for carrying out the investigation of complaints about the conduct of lawyers and suitability issues pursuant to Chapters 3 and 5 of the Legal Profession Uniform Law (NSW) (Uniform Law).
The Team Leader is responsible for the supervision of a small legal team charged with the investigation and resolution of complaints about solicitors under the Uniform Law including the review of reports to the Council of NSW and to the Professional Conduct Committee.
Responsibilities and dutiesLeading a team of investigators (which reports to the Professional Conduct Committee) as it manages and resolves complaints under the Legal Profession Uniform Law (NSW), including:advising and assisting team members on the management of individual matters;managing overall team and individual practice resources;reviewing and monitoring team functions and responsibilities including performance appraisals of team members;active case and practice management.Expeditious analysis and investigation of complaints against solicitors including drafting relevant notices and reports.Examination, investigation, research, report and make recommendations on complaints and other matters impacting on solicitors.Obtaining and collecting evidence to support any prosecution or advice given by the Litigation section as necessary.Liaison with complainants, solicitors, Professional Conduct Committee, Council, Legal Services Commissioner and other staff.Active involvement in the Department including legislative and legal development.Assist with the management of the Delegations Register.Assist in creating and managing systems for reporting to OLSC.Qualifications and relevant experience requiredLegal Qualifications with extensive relevant legal experience.Admission as a lawyer and holding or eligible to hold a practising certificate.Supervisory experience will be highly regarded.Competencies and skillsSound knowledge of Legal Profession Uniform Law (NSW) and related legislation.Good grasp of solicitor's accounting practice.Proven ability to use clear, concise language in correspondence and reports.Ability to plan and organise self and others to ensure the completion of tasks and to manage and support others to succeed in their roles.Ability to structure, engage and present information clearly.Demonstrated ability with regard to computer skills, including word processing capabilities, proficiency with e-mail and internet applications and database applications and experience using programs, such as Microsoft Word 10.Salary: $170000-173000
