Position Overview
The Legal Counsel will be tasked with overseeing legal operational matters and risks within Essilor Luxottica's retail and professional solutions operations in Australia and New Zealand.
They will handle a wide range of work including property, franchising and general commercial law matters and will work closely with senior management as well as other internal and external stakeholders.
Whilst the emphasis of this role is on Property and Leasing, namely handling legal enquiries, reviews and issues related to commercial, retail, and residential properties, the role will also support the general commercial operations of the ANZ business and our franchising network.
Requirements for Success
Manage the negotiation and preparation of commercial, retail and residential lease documents on a portfolio of 700+ sites across Australia and New Zealand.
Advise on a broad range of general commercial legal matters, including the review of marketing materials and advertising campaigns.
Review and draft a broad range of commercial agreements, including for the procurement of goods and services, and the wholesale supply of goods to customers.
Advise on disputes and complaints, including customer issues.
Foster strong collaboration, innovation and continuous improvement within the legal team and wider business.
Work with the global legal team on a range of legal issues and global projects.
Manage external legal advisers whilst controlling spend.
Support our internal franchise network.
Skills & Experience
Must possess a Law Degree, minimum Bachelor's level.
Must hold an unrestricted Australian Practising Certificate.
Minimum of 5 years experience within a reputable Australian firm or relevant in-house experience.
Leasing and property experience is critical.
Retail leasing experience will be an advantage.
In-depth understanding of the Australian retail leasing legislation.
Understanding of the Franchise Code of Conduct.
Broad commercial and consumer law experience including ACL.
Able to work on a large range of complex matters and prioritise accordingly.
