About the role:We are looking for a Legal Counsel to provide advice and support across the business, including drafting and negotiating all upstream and downstream contracts for ANZ, with a particular focus on development activities (including construction and associated works and services agreements). The role requires a hands-on approach to addressing legal issues which the business faces day-to-day, with the primary goal of adding value to CDC through proactive identification and mitigation of risk.
Key responsibilities include:•
Provide legal advice to various business units on a wide range of issues, including regulatory compliance, corporate governance and risk management.•
Draft and review contracts, subcontracts, goods and services agreements, request for tender conditions and other legal documents to protect the interests of CDC and mitigate potential risks.•
Develop, implement and support training of CDC staff on contract administration and management systems including standardised templates, process flowcharts and process checklists.•
Identify, assess, and mitigate legal risks associated with development projects, including issues related to project delays, cost overruns, disputes, and regulatory compliance.•
Manage external legal counsel regarding specialised legal advice and dispute management, as required.•
Stay abreast of changes in relevant laws, regulations, and industry requirements to ensure compliance and minimise legal exposure for CDC. Provide guidance on navigating complex regulatory frameworks.•
Proactively identify opportunities to enhance legal processes, procedures, and best practice.•
Build key stakeholder relationships across the business and lead, attend and contribute to appropriate team and stakeholder meetings to ensure excellent stakeholder engagement and communication.•

Other duties as directed from time to time.About you:•
3+ years' experience with proven experience in private practice and preferably, some time working in-house.•
Strong understanding of commercial contracting with a focus on works contracts for development projects and goods and services agreement for supply and installation of equipment and maintenance service agreements in an operating environment.•
Ability to ensure that legal professional privilege is maintained wherever required.•
Experience in applying legal and regulatory knowledge to protect and enhance commercial interests of the business.•
Ability to advise, manage and proactively manage (and avoid) contentious claims and disputes•
Solid negotiation skills and the ability to use persuasive strategies within CDC, with counterparties, contractors and with external stakeholders, including suppliers.•
