Your Team The Legal Counsel is part of the CFS Legal team which sits within CFS' Strategy, Risk and Corporate Affairs (SRCA) team led by the Group Executive - Strategy, Risk and Corporate Affairs.
The role reports to the General Counsel & Chief Compliance Officer.
Your Responsibilities You will assist Management and the various corporate Boards by: Providing incisive, practical legal advice on a broad and diverse range of superannuation, platforms, managed investments and managed accounts matters, including advice on product design matters, disclosure, regulatory compliance, member outcomes, consolidation and restructuring activities and successor fund transfers.
Providing plain English, accurate, timely, advice through effective communication.
Maintaining and enhance a strong culture of compliance in terms of regulatory and legal obligations.
Establishing and maintaining effective and positive working relationships with internal stakeholders and external contacts.
Contributing to the achievement of the goals and targets for the legal team and SRCA.
Being an active and contributing team member especially in respect of excelling in member service, simplifying processes and identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.
Your Capability and Experience 5-7 years' PQE in financial services, ideally having spent time in private practice.
Proven experience in superannuation, platforms, managed investments and managed accounts.
In particular, strong knowledge of the Corporations Act, SIS Act, relevant Regulatory and industry standards and the practical implementation of the requirements under each.
Thorough knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation, regulations, standards and corporate governance.
Ability to manage stakeholder relationships at all levels by being a valued and trusted adviser, exercising judgement and influencing key governance outcomes.
Strong experience in managing legal risk in complex environments, including experience in providing practical and concise advice and guidance to management on all legal matters relating to the operation of a financial services organisation.
Strategic thinking ability and strong track record of supporting product development or transformational change.
