About the Role Are you seeking a fixed term, in-house counsel role within a collaborative and highly skilled Legal services team? This busy role will see you provide legal advice and services across a broad range of legal disciplines and experience a varied and dynamic workload.
Reporting to the General Counsel, the Legal Counsel will manage their own files, which could include legal interpretation and application of the CFA Act and Regulations, advise and negotiate on a wide range of commercial and inter-governmental matters including MOUs, agreements, contracts, property licences and leases, litigation claims, work with external lawyers, provide advice on employment and industrial matters, as well as volunteer discipline and advise on legal risks associated with CFA's activities.
This unique opportunity for a Legal Counsel to join the Governance, Legal and Risk Services Department will support the whole organisation. This critical role will provide strategic, practical, and outcome-focused legal advice and analysis across all areas of the law. You will receive support and mentorship from the General Counsel and Deputy General Counsel, and have the opportunity to influence executives, collaborate with CFA employees, engage with volunteer members, and liaise with external lawyers.
Further responsibilities can be found in the PD attached. About You The ideal candidate will be admitted to practice as an Australian lawyer and hold an unrestricted Victorian practising certificate. You will have demonstrated experience in applying legal principles to a wide range of issues across various legal disciplines.
You will be customer-centric with exceptional interpersonal skills, able to build productive working relationships with stakeholders to achieve strategic objectives. Additionally, you will possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of producing high-quality, well-researched, and concise advice, reports, briefs, and correspondence.
Your success in this role will depend on your proven experience in providing strategic legal advice, including the interpretation and application of legislation in complex environments.
