We now have a brand new opportunity to collaborate across Australian and international markets and provide legal advice to stakeholders at all levels in a fast growing global fintech business. As our Legal Counsel , you will be reporting to our Regional Head of Legal, APAC and work collaboratively with colleagues across Melbourne, the UK, and Cyprus to provide high-quality, timely, and commercially astute legal advice to stakeholders at all levels.
Your expertise will support the dynamic and fast-growing nature of our global business.
In this role, you will primarily focus on advising the Pepperstone Group on matters in Australia and the APAC region, leveraging your Australian financial services regulatory experience.
Additionally, you may engage in diverse legal areas, including commercial law, contracts, technology, privacy, employment, intellectual property, and anti-money laundering.
This role is flexible and can be structured as full-time or part-time, with a minimum commitment of four days per week.
As our Legal Counsel, your key responsibilities may include, but not limited to : Provide expert advice on financial services laws and regulations, primarily in Australia and APAC (including the Bahamas and Mauritius).
Support global and multi-jurisdictional projects, including in the UK (FCA), Middle East (DFSA), and Kenya (CMA).
Advise senior stakeholders on regulatory consultations and significant regulatory inquiries.
Guide the roll-out of new products, initiatives, and special projects, including drafting client-facing legal documents and communications.
Assist with regulatory license applications and amendments.
Review, negotiate, and draft various commercial contracts (e.g., IT, SaaS, marketing, outsourcing) to ensure alignment with legal and business objectives.
Collaborate with internal teams (Compliance, IT, Marketing, Finance, etc.)
to provide legal guidance and ensure consistent practices across the organization.
Advise on corporate governance and assist with company secretarial matters.
Manage litigation and dispute resolution in collaboration with internal teams and external counsel.
Identify, manage, and mitigate risks, including those related to privacy and data security.
About You: Bachelor of Laws/JD and a current practicing certificate in Australia is essential.
3-6 years' PQE in Australian financial services legal roles (both in-house and/or private practice experience will be considered).
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the proven ability to influence stakeholders at varying levels and resolve complex problems both strategically and commercially Experience in reviewing, negotiating and drafting agreements with customers, partners and suppliers (or have the interest and ability to learn and upskill).
Thrives in an entrepreneurial atmosphere; high degree of initiative, excels under pressure and with minimal supervision.
Highly collaborative with a 'can do' attitude and the ability to deliver results efficiently and consistently by effectively prioritising multiple workstreams Team player who enjoys building relationships and is willing to contribute to our great organisational culture.
