The role provides trusted and practical legal services across the business, encompassing a broad range of practice areas including contracts, construction, commercial law and statutory interpretation. The Legal Counsel will contribute to the continuous improvement and efficiency of the business and make a real contribution to the delivery of an essential service. Responsibilities
Provide legal advice to the Executive and Senior Leadership teams and employees on various matters, including complex legal issues, as well as offering legal expertise for policy and practice development. Support the maintenance of a suite of legal precedents across a range of areas including contracts, statutory notices, etc., that can be used across the organisation. Provide high-quality legal advice, manage complex disputes, adapt to business needs, exercise professional judgment in negotiations, ensure consistent legal practices, and prioritise the client's interests with integrity. Provide legal training and support to employees to enhance their legal literacy and professional leadership within the business. Skills & Experience
Tertiary qualification in Law. Admitted to practice as an Australian legal practitioner under the Legal Profession Uniform Law Application Act 2014. At least 4 years post admission experience working in similar roles with minimal supervision, preferably within the construction and/or government sectors. Demonstrated experience in contract and property law, regulatory/administrative law and civil litigation. Experience in briefing external legal services providers.
