D'Arcy Weil is representing a leading Australian telecommunications company renowned for its innovative solutions and industry leadership. Our client is seeking a highly skilled Legal Counsel specialising in competition law to join their legal team in either Melbourne or Sydney.
This role is crucial for navigating the complex landscape of competition law and regulatory compliance, ensuring the company's operations and growth are effectively supported.
As a Legal Counsel focused on competition, you will provide strategic legal advice, manage regulatory compliance, and represent the company in matters related to competition law. Your role will be essential in shaping the company's competitive strategies and ensuring alignment with legal standards in the energy sector.
Key Responsibilities
Provide legal advice on competition law and related regulatory issues to support business operations. Advise on mergers, acquisitions, and other transactions from a competition law perspective. Ensure compliance with Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) regulations. Conduct legal risk assessments related to competition and advise on mitigation strategies. Represent the company in interactions with regulatory bodies and during legal proceedings. Draft and review contracts, agreements, and other legal documents with a focus on competition compliance. Collaborate with internal stakeholders to develop and implement competition compliance programs. Monitor and analyse changes in competition law and regulations, advising on potential impacts. Provide training and guidance to business units on competition law and best practices. Work closely with external legal counsel on complex cases and regulatory matters. Support the legal team in broader corporate and commercial legal matters as needed. Qualifications and Experience:
Bachelor of Laws (LLB) with admission to practice law in Australia. Minimum 5 years' experience specialising in competition law, preferably within the telecommunications or energy sectors. In-depth knowledge of Australian competition law and regulatory frameworks. Proven track record in handling complex legal matters and regulatory compliance. Excellent analytical, negotiation, and communication skills. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Strong stakeholder management and relationship-building abilities. Experience working with or within telecommunications companies is highly desirable. Benefits:
