La Trobe University's Department of Languages and Cultures seeks to appoint an outstanding candidate to a continuing full-time (1.0 FTE) position as a Lecturer in Visual Arts. Visual Arts is housed within the Department of Languages and Cultures, alongside of languages including Chinese, Auslan, French, Modern Greek, Hindi, Italian, Japanese and Spanish, as well as majors in Classics and Ancient History, English and Creative Writing and Linguistics. This teaching and research position is designed to contribute to the Bachelor of Visual Arts based at the Bendigo campus, and the Visual Cultures major that is part of the Bachelor of Arts.
A Level B academic (teaching and research) appointment will work without the need for close supervision and is expected to develop curriculum, coordinate subjects, teach and support students as they learn. In addition, they will support the administrative functions of the discipline as well as contribute to the department's robust interdisciplinary research culture through the dissemination of high-quality research.
The Visual Arts program is seeking to strengthen its community engagement and links to industry; applicants with an enthusiasm for building relationships at local and national level would be particularly welcome. The position is based at the Bendigo campus but there may be opportunities to teach at the Melbourne campus as well.
Skills and Experience To be considered for this position, you will have:
PhD or equivalent accreditation and standing recognised by the University/profession as appropriate for the relevant discipline areas.Demonstrated competence in teaching and curriculum development.Evidence of high quality and/or high impact research conducted and published or otherwise disseminated, relative to opportunity.Demonstrated ability to supervise, or co-supervise, honours and postgraduate students.Sound analytical skills with an ability to communicate complex information clearly both verbally and in writing.High level organisational skills with the ability to set priorities, meet deadlines, initiate and follow-up actions, all with minimal or no supervision.High level verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to interact effectively with people from a diverse range of backgrounds.Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and productively with staff and students from a diverse range of backgrounds.Experience in the preparation of research proposal submissions to external funding bodies and evidence of success in securing research funding.Proven experience and success in managing staff performance and development.An established track record exhibiting nationally and internationally.Demonstrated ability to teach across both studio practice and visual cultures subjects.Please refer to the Position Description for other duties, skills and experience required for this position.
