The School of Animal & Veterinary Sciences is seeking a dynamic and highly skilled Small Animal Internal Medicine Clinician. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to clinical services, teaching, and research within a collaborative academic environment.
About the Role The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop their career in a vibrant and supportive environment, contributing to the advancement of knowledge and the provision of high-quality clinical services. As part of our team, you will help shape the future of veterinary education and clinical practice in small animal medicine. You will be joining a welcoming team of academic and professional veterinarians, consisting of three surgeons, two medical oncologists, an anaesthesia service, a 24-hr emergency service, and general practitioners. We maintain a highly collaborative and collegial clinical environment, and strive to demonstrate our passion for veterinary medicine and lifelong learning to our rotating DVM students.
This position would involve a mixture of clinical, teaching, research and administrative responsibilities that can be catered to the strengths of the candidate. Clinical responsibilities would entail primary case management and the re-establishment of this specialty service at the Roseworthy Veterinary Hospital (RVH). Teaching contributions are primarily needed within the 2nd and clinical years of the DVM curriculum, but opportunities also exist to educate new graduates on staff as general practitioners in the RVH, as well as nurses and nursing students. Research and administrative contributions will be dependent on the experience and interest of the candidate.
About the Practice: The Roseworthy Veterinary Hospital (RVH) provides a range of first opinion, ambulatory, and specialist veterinary care across all animal species to the general public and referring veterinarians. The RVH has excellent facilities including an outstanding Large Animal Hospital, Companion Animal Hospital, and an on-site Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory. We have dedicated teaching and animal handling facilities and a herd of approximately 30 teaching horses. We are continuing to develop the clinical services, including plans for commencing residency programs in the near future, and developing our research capabilities.
The large animal team consists of internal medicine specialists, surgeons, an equine sports medicine specialist, junior/ hospital veterinarians, and ambulatory clinicians. We are supported by a team of experienced nurses and anaesthetists. Whilst the bulk of our caseload is equine related, we also provide primary opinion services to the local hobby farm animal owners.
The School of Animal and Veterinary Sciences is located on a 1600 hectare property at the Roseworthy campus. The campus is situated on the doorstep of the Barossa Valley - an internationally renowned wine region, beaches, sporting activities, benchmark schools, and shopping facilities. It is South Australia's only veterinary school and constitutes a team of leading animal and veterinary science academics.
