Role Position Context: Port Melbourne Primary School is restructuring its leadership team to align with strategic priorities. A major focus for the school is aligning teaching and learning practices with evidence from cognitive science research and the science of learning.
Role Learning Specialists will be highly skilled classroom practitioners who continue to spend the majority of their time in the classroom delivering high-quality teaching and learning and have a range of responsibilities related to their expertise, including teaching demonstration lessons, observing and providing feedback to other teachers and facilitating school-based professional learning. Learning Specialists are expected to have deep knowledge and expertise in high quality teaching and learning in delivering improved achievement, engagement and wellbeing for students. The role of the Learning Specialist will be to model excellence in teaching and learning through demonstration lessons and, mentoring and coaching teachers in improving the skill, knowledge and effectiveness of the teaching workforce.
The Learning Specialist role is aimed at building excellence in teaching and learning within the Teaching Service.
Responsibilities Key Responsibilities: 1. Coaching and Modelling in Classrooms: · Provide in-class coaching and modelling to support teachers in implementing evidence-based teaching practices.
· Work collaboratively with teachers to improve instructional methods and student outcomes.
2. Strategic Planning and Change Management: · Lead the planning and transition to teaching and learning practices informed by the science of learning.
· Develop and implement strategic plans to ensure smooth transitions and effective adoption of new practices.
· Collaborate with the Middle Leadership Team to lead the documentation and refinement of the curriculum.
· Ensure the curriculum aligns with evidence-based practices and supports student learning.
4. Professional Learning: · Lead regular whole-school professional learning sessions.
· Design and deliver professional development programs that focus on evidence-based teaching strategies.
5. Assessment, Data, and Improvement: · Oversee the collection, analysis, and use of assessment data to drive continuous improvement in teaching and learning.
· Support teachers in using data to inform instruction and improve student outcomes.
6. Semester Reporting: · Oversee the semester reporting process, ensuring accurate and meaningful reports on student progress.
· Provide guidance and support to teachers in preparing reports
7. Contribute to Broader School Improvement: · Collaborate with the school improvement team to achieve strategic outcomes.
· Enhance the day-to-day operations of the school to foster a positive and effective learning environment.
Who May Apply Teachers currently registered or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching and qualified to teach and/or have demonstrated experience in the curriculum area(s) specified for the position.
