About the officeThis role sits within the Pro Vice Chancellor, Student Experience portfolio which includes Student Success, Indigenous Education, Chaplaincy, Libraries, Student Life and Wellbeing. Student Success is a national office that directly supports student achievement through Learning Support, Career Development and Scholarships.
About the roleThe Learning Advisor will make a significant contribution to the teaching effort of the institution, with an emphasis on providing students with support and guidance in developing their study skills, academic literacies and/or numeracy to enhance student success and retention. The position reports into the Learning Coordinator located on the Fremantle campus.
Key ResponsibilitiesFacilitate individual, small-group consultations and workshops for students, both online and face to face, focused on supporting them in developing their study skills, English language, academic literacies and/or numeracy needs (as required).Undertake research/scholarship and prepare reports on initiatives that best drive student success and retention.Develop curriculum specific resources and support for academic literacy and numeracy development.Collaborate with course coordinators and fellow academic staff on best practice in achieving student success.Inform the students explicitly about the purpose and parameters of the consultations, in particular that they do not provide content-based instruction or proof-reading.Report any issues and concerns (particularly regarding student health and well-being and academic integrity) promptly to the Learning Coordinator and/or other university staff.Manage consultation bookings and maintain records.Develop resources for study skills, English language, academic literacies and/or numeracy needs (as required).Qualifications, skills & experienceQualifications - Level A Academic Completion of tertiary study (4 years) in a relevant discipline and/or have equivalent qualifications and/or professional experience.Honours degree or higher qualifications, an extended professional degree, or a three-year degree with a postgraduate diploma.Strong understanding of study skills, academic literacies and/or numeracy, and experience in supporting tertiary students to develop one or more of these capabilities.Knowledge, Skills and Experience Teaching or instructional experience including a demonstrated ability to engage with students to achieve learning outcomes and the use and creation of appropriate resources.Strong communication skills including an ability to communicate effectively with a range of diverse groups and individuals.Demonstrated ability to work well within both a one-to-one and multidisciplinary team context.Evidence of managing accurate record-keeping and reporting.Exhibit a flexible and innovative approach to problem solving.BenefitsGenerous training and development opportunities.Friendly and collaborative working environment.Discounted study at the University.How to applyPlease apply online with a resume and cover letter outlining your suitability for the role.
