The role The Leading Hand position is truly a hands-on role. You'll really enjoy it if you prefer diversity in your day, rather than having a set schedule of the same tasks each day. Even more so if you're keen to be behind the scenes of Adelaide's live music and event industry.
You will spend about:
80% of your time working shoulder to shoulder with the team, and 20% coordinating daily operations at our Para Hills yard The Leading role is broken down into 3 parts: Team Leadership, Event Delivery and Yard Management.
With your Team leadership hat on, you will:Lead by example: Uphold Viking's policies and values, and be an example of efficiency and high quality workIdentify and delegate the day to day priorities to your teamThoroughly brief your team at the start of each shift so they can approach each job as confidently and efficiently as possibleConduct and document effective tool box meetings Support your team members with training and mentoringEnsure work in the yard and at events is completed to a high standard and executed to specified time constraintsBe accountable for your decisions and learn from your (and your team's) mistakes 2. Essential for smooth and efficient Event Delivery is:
Preparing your team in advance for each event. The amount of work you'll do at the event depends on how well you prepare at the yard.Following systems and checklists to ensure the smooth running of each eventWith your team or solo, loading/unloading, installing equipment and driving trucks to and from various eventsWorking onsite during large events (that's the fun part - you'll get paid to be behind the scenes of some of Adelaide's biggest music events!)(after a while) Being on a first-name basis with key customers and suppliers and maintaining good relationships with them. As a team we're super customer-focussed. Solving issues as they arise and keeping communication flowing - a cool head will serve you well during our busy festival season when change is constant and pressure can be high. 3. Yard management requires you to:
Maintain a safe and efficient work environment in the yard and the workshop, adhering to company policies and industry regulations. Work alongside your team to maintain and repair equipment, as well as cleaning post-hire, and preparing for hirePlan time and resources in advance so that you and your team can work together to prevent unnecessary delays and minimise preventable errorsKeep a daily record of activities and relevant dataEnsure trucks and trailers are booked in to be serviced on time and are consistently well maintainedEnsure the yard and storerooms are organised and adequately stockedArrange additional labour when required About Us Viking has spent 15 years as specialists in providing hire equipment: toilets, showers and hydration solutions for major events and festivals including:

MR licenceForklift licenceExperience in a similar hands-on role, even if it hasn't been quite at this level but you feel ready to step upA strong sense of pride in your work and the work of your teamFlexibility and a positive attitude – this is a big oneMechanically-minded to an extent, e.g. general knowledge of light trucks, trailers, forklifts (greasing of joints, checking trailer cables, minor repairs etc.) would provide a strong foundation for you in this role.
