Description New Forests seeks a qualified candidate for the position of Lead, Policy & Advocacy.
Reporting into the Global Head of Communications & Advocacy, this role will be responsible for coordinating and directing New Forests' advocacy initiatives to create a supportive policy and stakeholder environment internationally and at the regional level for our investment activities.
New Forests has offices in Melbourne and Sydney and also welcomes candidates located elsewhere for a remote arrangement.

We manage a diversified portfolio of sustainable timber plantations and conservation areas, carbon and conservation finance projects, agriculture, timber processing and infrastructure.

The Lead, Policy & Advocacy will develop and execute an advocacy strategy aligned with New Forests' strategic priorities.
This role will engage in a wide range of activities related to interacting with advocacy bodies of which New Forests is a member; develop policy positions and engage in public consultation processes; support regional investment teams with respect to their advocacy priorities; coordinate advocacy resourcing across the business; and support thought leadership and content development.
The role will work closely with the communications and investor relations functions at New Forests to promote an advocacy strategy that is aligned with the company's vision and mission.

Key Responsibilities In this role, you will be responsible for:
Developing New Forests' global advocacy strategy and resourcing plan, working closely with stakeholders inside the business and regional teams including our subsidiary New Agriculture.
Developing tools to evaluate priorities, allocate budget resources, and evaluate performance of advocacy efforts and suggest continuous improvement.
Leading on the implementation of New Forests' advocacy initiatives to demonstrate investments in the forest, land, and agricultural sectors can deliver climate, social, and biodiversity impacts in alignment with local needs and national and international policy objectives, building trust and social license.
Working with our membership-based advocacy groups and senior leaders in New Forests, building and maintaining relationships with government, NGOs, and other civil society groups to influence relevant advocacy and policy development, in relation to carbon and biodiversity markets, nature- and climate-related accounting, climate change policy, land use, among other topics.
Responding to policy windows, e.g., producing submissions and policy briefs on topics relevant to New Forests' and New Agriculture's strategic advocacy priorities.
Providing advice to the CEO and leadership team on policy developments and how it may impact New Forests' and New Agriculture's businesses.
Developing written advocacy material for a range of audiences (e.g., investors, government, stakeholders, media) that can support New Forests' competitive positioning and communications/thought leadership objectives.
Qualifications, Experience and Strengths We are seeking candidates with the following qualifications, experience and strengths:
Strong experience in related advocacy, policy or government relations roles (e.g., environment, climate, sustainable development, forestry, agriculture) with solid understanding of issues that may be impacting New Forests and its subsidiary New Agriculture.
Highly developed interpersonal skills including ability to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders including member organisations, government, non-government, community and private sector.
Demonstrated ability and willingness to work collaboratively with others, to provide leadership on advocacy issues, build relationships, and motivate individuals and groups as advocates.
Demonstrated high-quality written skills, particularly in relation to the development of policy papers and submissions.
Demonstrated high-level of oral communication and liaison skills, including ability and comfort to put forward and debate around policy positions.
Degree qualified in relevant discipline preferred but not essential (including Bachelor of Arts, Social Science or Communications).
Understanding of or exposure to forestry and/or agriculture preferred but not essential.
A self-starter; willingness to work within a small team environment to ensure the achievement of key organisational outcomes.
