Lawyer or Analyst (Wholesale Markets Intermediary Compliance)Great opportunity to join our Wholesale Markets Intermediary Compliance team.Permanent position, Sydney or Melbourne location, flexible work arrangements, hybrid work (50:50).Salary range $123,444 - $144,386 + 15.4% superannuation.The teamThe Market Conduct team seeks to ensure trust and confidence in Australia's financial markets by regulating wholesale private capital funds (including private equity and private credit) and market intermediaries (including market participants, investment banks, securities dealers and issuers of over the counter (OTC) products). We carry out surveillances of conduct and compliance with financial services laws to identify and disrupt misconduct and emerging threats that risk harming consumers or market integrity, working closely with enforcement teams.The Wholesale Markets Intermediary Compliance (WMIC) team sits within the Market Conduct and is responsible for supervising the conduct of wholesale OTC intermediaries and issuers, and wholesale private capital funds. Wholesale markets are critical to the Australian economy for funding and risk management and have grown rapidly in recent years.The WMIC team undertakes surveillance of wholesale market intermediaries' conduct, and their management of conduct risks and contributes to the development of market conduct standards. These actions seek to uphold integrity and confidence in Australian wholesale markets by identifying and disrupting misconduct, raising and harmonising standards and promoting a level playing field between participants.The roleReview and test compliance of intermediaries and issuers in the wholesale markets, including onsite surveillances and desk-based reviews.Provide strategic analysis, evaluation, and guidance on technical and policy issues relating to private markets and compliance with regulatory requirements, emerging issues, trends, and risks.Draft various documents including letters setting out findings from a surveillance; memoranda recommending actions ASIC should take; public reports and guidance; briefings to ASIC's senior leaders; and notices to obtain information.Collaborate with others to contribute to projects and actively share knowledge and information.Lead and manage surveillance projects in accordance with defined timeframes.About youBachelor's degree in law and/or a relevant finance or business-related qualification and/or equivalent substantial relevant work experience.Working knowledge and understanding of private capital funds and wholesale OTC markets.Experience in a legal, compliance, risk, or business analyst role within a financial services environment (such as investment management, corporate finance, investment banking) or a regulatory environment.Understanding of relevant legislation and industry guidance as they relate to wholesale private capital funds or OTC intermediaries.Experience in providing advice and working on policy matters relating to wholesale markets is desirable.Demonstrated experience in managing complex projects to deliver outcomes.About ASICASIC's remit is one of the broadest of regulators across the world.
