Multiple new roles await We are looking to fill all levels of Lawyers from EL2 Special Counsel through to APS4 paralegals to support the AAT DR&L Branch and create a merit list for future opportunities. Bring your knowledge of the NDIS Act, the AAT Act, and alternative dispute resolution practices to these exciting opportunities at the NDIA.
The Administrative Appeals Tribunal (AAT) Dispute Resolution & Litigation (DR&L) Branch is the Agency's in-house legal practice servicing the Agency with legal advice and litigation support services on merits review matters for participants in the AAT.
As a member of this dynamic branch, you will be a leader of leaders, responsible for resolving issues and risks across a wide range of activities.
Responsibilities of these roles include, but are not limited to: Providing high-quality legal advice, support, and services to internal clients in managing and resolving participant-related reviews in the AAT. Leading a team of lawyers handling AAT matters, including oversight of all legal aspects, workflow prioritisation, and mentoring. Conducting litigation in the AAT on behalf of the CEO of the Agency, including:appearing in the AAT at case conferences, conciliations, and directions hearings; providing legal advice; conducting relevant research; preparing submissions and other documents for litigation; briefing counsel; liaising with external legal service providers on outsourced matters; managing cases through interlocutory negotiations and final hearings. Establishing and maintaining excellent working relationships with clients and stakeholders, including courts, tribunals, and the legal profession. Managing client priorities and available resources to deliver results on time and within budget. Managing transactional work of a legal nature, including administrative processes related to legal services. Advising on the operation of legislation, instruments, guidelines, and policies. Assisting in the preparation of legislative and other instruments in the context of AAT matters. Applying alternate dispute resolution methods and advocacy skills to resolving applications/reviews. Developing a range of written materials, including briefing material for the CEO and other stakeholders. Working in a business partnering capacity with the Agency, identifying and advising on relevant legal risks. Leading business partnering activities, including delivering capacity development and legal training. Leading projects or assuming a 'champion' role to inform on precedents and content development.
