What are we looking for?
Our Land Rights, Disputes and Advisory practice is now seeking a qualified lawyer (2-4 PAE) (with some flexibility as to level) to specialise in compulsory acquisition but with opportunities for more diverse experience.
Ideally you will have 2-4 + years post admission experience and have practiced in the area of compulsory acquisition and have some litigation experience.
Our compulsory acquisition team represents claimants around the country but is primarily focused in Victoria.
We act in a range of compulsory acquisition matters, including novel test-case claims.
In addition to the compulsory acquisition work of the team, the practice offers a wide variety of opportunities for experience in both dispute and advisory work, including to NFPs and in the field of environmental claims.
Existing work includes an environmental class action investigation and work for a significant Indigenous corporation on native title claims amongst other interesting matters.

Duties and responsibilities will include: Management of a file load; Conducting matters through their life-cycle, independently but with supervision; Developing and maintaining relationships with clients to hold their trust throughout their matters; Negotiating with Acquiring Authorities to progress and resolve matters; Conducting litigation in appropriate matters; Collaborating with a team of lawyers and supervisors to develop skills; Provide clear, practical and concise legal and commercial advice;  Providing a tailored approach to clients to understand the context of their matter; Identifying practical and innovative solutions for clients; Maintain and build new client relationships for the practice; and Providing exceptional service to clients.

Working within a collaborative and highly regarded team, you will be a committed and enthusiastic individual who possesses the following:  Previous practising experience in compulsory acquisition, and ideally litigation; Excitement to collaborate with colleagues to learn and build the practice; Outstanding communication & interpersonal skills; Exceptional negotiation skills and an ability to communicate effectively and compassionately; Ability to work autonomously as well as within a team environment; Ability to listen to, and empathise with clients;  Ability to exercise judgement & resolve problems expeditiously & satisfactorily.
