About the roleWe are seeking a back end focused construction lawyer to join our national practice.Based in our new offices in Melbourne, you will assist clients on varied and large-scale projects over a range of sectors including social infrastructure, renewables, commercial, residential and industrial, while working for a mix of project owners (including Government) and head contractors, subcontractors and consultants.During and after the delivery of projects, you will work with our team and clients to manage disputes, including high-value and complex litigation and arbitration as well as adjudications and expert determinations. In that context and as part of a team, you will be expected to take carriage of most day-to-day activities on a number of matters, provide clear and pointed advice, prepare evidence and assist in drafting court documents and legal submissions, as well as instructing Counsel and managing technical experts.While the role is mainly back end, you will also have the opportunity to develop your front end drafting skills.Working closely with our three partners you will have access to support and supervision from a team of lawyers both locally and from our national practice. Your clients will include government, developers, major engineering companies and contractors as well as owners and owners corporations in large apartment complexes.
About youThe successful candidate will have 3-4 years PAE and back-end construction experience with sound knowledge of the sector and enjoy the dynamics of working in a collaborative team with a strong commitment to achieving client outcomes and a desire to continually develop your technical capability.Ideally you will have experience in:
acting for both claimants and respondents in adjudications under the Building and Construction Industry Security of Payment Act 2002;preparing building defect claims such as in relation to combustible cladding and water ingress defects;a working knowledge of the Australian Standard suite of construction contracts;advocating for clients in alternative dispute resolution and interlocutory appearance work; andfamiliarity with processes in the Courts and the VCAT.In addition to the above, you will have the following skills/attributes:
