The role
Piper Alderman is looking for two ambitious and hard-working law students to take on clerk roles in the Dispute Resolution and Litigation team in our Sydney CBD office. As a law clerk you will be given the opportunity to do real legal work from the get-go, in a supportive and collaborative learning environment which encourages you to balance and blend your university commitments with work experience. We aim to build a strong pipeline of rising talent and as a result, our Law Clerk positions are ongoing in nature while you complete your degree, working a minimum of two days per week. You will see the opportunity to immerse yourself in interesting, thought-provoking tasks such as legal research for current matters, drafting correspondence and legal documents, attendance and note taking at client meetings, gathering and analysing case facts and collating documents for counsel briefing and court hearings.
We understand the importance of investing in our rising talent. In addition to your day-to-day role, you will join our team of Rising Lawyers engaged in a variety of interest groups including legal skills development, wellness and business development. The respective interest groups plan and deliver initiatives which support the development of lawyers in the early stages of their career as well as creating opportunities to build social connection and have a bit of fun! It's a great way to get to know other lawyers in the same cohort as you in Sydney, whilst getting involved and valuably contributing to the development of the firm.
To succeed in this role you will ideally have:
Demonstrated academic excellence throughout your tertiary studies
Thorough research skills and excellent attention to detail
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to draft basic correspondence
An ability to demonstrate initiative and take a proactive approach to solving problems and building relationships
An ability to digest instructions quickly and quality produce results
Please note that you must be in your 3rd, 4th or 5th year of legal studies to be eligible for this role.
