About the Role
The Laboratory Technician will assist the cluster lead in managing the daily operations of various laboratories within the Structures, Geotechnical and Environmental Cluster.
This role involves maintaining and operating laboratory equipment, as well as supporting academic staff to optimise the effective use of these resources.
The cluster encompasses a diverse range of laboratories that facilitate research and teaching in civil and structural engineering, environmental hydrology, and offshore geomechanics.
Your responsibilities will include: Serve as the primary resource for technical expertise, providing support for teaching and research activities, including instructing staff and students on laboratory equipment usage. Manage the maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment, ensuring compliance with safety and operational standards while facilitating the purchase of new equipment. Oversee laboratory inventory and procurement of consumables, maintaining accurate documentation and records of teaching and research activities. Ensure adherence to Quality and OHS requirements, conducting inspections, risk assessments, and supporting the facilitation of practical classes and off-site field trips. Who we are looking for
You will possess strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, enabling you to work effectively both as part of a team and independently.
With a customer service mindset, you will demonstrate the ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines in a busy environment, while also contributing to short and long-term planning for timely service delivery.
Familiarity with Australian occupational health and safety (OHS) legislation and laboratory regulatory requirements is essential.
You will also have:
A relevant degree and/or trade, or an equivalent combination of experience and educational training in environmental hydrology. Experience with measurement and analytical systems for water and environmental data collection, including data acquisition systems and telemetry. Knowledge of compliance with Australian Standards, ASTM, ISO Standards, and NATA, along with adherence to state and federal government guidelines and regulations, including BICON, OGTR, and Quarantine.
