The role
We are seeking a highly organised and proactive Laboratory Assistant to provide vital support to our laboratory and clinical trials teams.
This role is key in ensuring smooth day-to-day operations, maintaining a safe and compliant work environment, and contributing to the success of our cutting-edge research.
Duties include but are not limited to: Receive/store deliveries, manage stock, and coordinate domestic/international shipmentsMonitor and maintain lab instruments, cold storage units, and liquid nitrogen systemsMonitor and address OH&S compliance issues, escalating unresolved concernsAssist lab groups with inventory of reagents, chemicals, and cold storage itemsManage proper disposal of hazardous, biological, and general lab wasteConduct regular safety checks (PPE usage, chemical handling) and lab inspections, including OGTR PC2 complianceDevelop, update, and document SOPs and safety proceduresAssist in lab inductions for new staff and studentsParticipate in lab meetings and inspectionsPromote a culture of safety, compliance, and teamwork.Your skills and experience A tertiary qualification in science or related discipline.Demonstrated experience in supporting laboratory operations, including PC2 lab operations, including equipment maintenance, inventory management, and waste disposal.Strong understanding of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) standards, including proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials, and conducting safety audits.Ability to perform routine maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of laboratory instruments and cold storage units.Proven ability to manage chemical and consumable inventory, ensuring proper storage and labelling of materials.Experience in identifying and mitigating safety risks and addressing laboratory operational challenges effectively.Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with laboratory teams, conduct inductions, document safety procedures, and positively influence individuals to follow health and safety protocols, fostering a culture of compliance and safety awareness.Familiarity with importing and shipping laboratory materials, ensuring compliance with relevant safety and regulatory requirements.All offers of employment are subject to a satisfactory Criminal History Check.
