About the Opportunity The Laboratories Team at ANSTO Australian Synchrotron (AS) currently has a vacancy for an inquisitive and motivated person to join our team. The Laboratories Team supports the operation of synchrotron instrumentation, working closely with our Science Team and supporting an extensive external research community. The AS enables approximately 1000 research experiments every year, from across a diverse range of areas including forensic science, health research, and advanced materials, led by researchers from across Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and beyond. This position works across our multiple laboratories, to train and support these researchers when accessing our labs.
About You In this role, you will work closely with our Laboratory Manager and our Senior Veterinary Scientist to maintain and develop our staff and user laboratories, to train and advise our staff and researchers, and to contribute to planning new laboratory capabilities. You will be an integral part of the laboratories team, and will enjoy working in a versatile environment with a variety of people of different knowledge and backgrounds. You will be supported to bring and develop your skills in animal husbandry to our institute. You will be supported to develop your skills and knowledge of the capabilities, techniques and instrumentation within our laboratories. Applicants will be required to have a degree in a science-related area with some experience working in a chemical and/or biological laboratory, OR a diploma in a science-related area with extensive experience working in a chemical and/or biological laboratory.
Your Duties and Responsibilities Ensure a high standard of laboratory housekeeping; monitor and procure/ensure availability of lab consumables, chemicals, and equipment to ensure the laboratories are well-stocked, tidy and functioning properly. Provide assistance to staff and visiting scientists on routine laboratory/animal facility activities, e.g. scheduling, providing chemicals and consumables, training on equipment, safe facility practices. Facilitate coordination of animal transport and arrival into the facility; monitor and ensure availability of animal care supplies, food, bedding and equipment. Ensure that users are complying with approved ethics and working within the regulatory requirements of the State, e.g. biosafety regulations, PC2 laboratory requirements, animal welfare.
