Biological & Biomedical Sciences (Science & Technology) Full time About the company Our client is a leading private provider of Pathology and Diagnostic services throughout Victoria.
Their parent company comprises more than 8,000 staff, 100 laboratories and 2000 collections centres across metropolitan, regional and remote Australia.
Their central Sydney Laboratory is seeking to appoint a Chief Scientist to join and help lead their dynamic team in Microbiology (Bacteriology).
About the role Reporting to the Laboratory Operations Manager, you will lead and support the strategy and operations of a team of 50 scientists and technicians within the department.
Your responsibilities will include: Providing Scientific and Professional Leadership to the Clinical Microbiology (Bacteriology) department.
Managing employee work performance and elevate productivity and enhance team engagement.
Ensuring all work practices and procedures comply with NATA/TGA/NPACC guidelines.
Managing all aspects of quality including conducting internal and external audits in accordance with NATA and other Australian Standards.
Managing and coordinating training, competency and professional development in conjunction with team leaders and senior management.
Performing diagnostic assays and result validation.
Staying abreast of market developments in equipment, technology and scientific literature and communicating significant findings.
About you To be considered for this role your skills and attributes should include: Suitable tertiary qualification in Medical Laboratory Science/Clinical Microbiology is essential.
AIMS accreditation is essential.
At least 8 years of experience in a Clinical Diagnostic Microbiology Laboratory (Bacteriology).
Experience with Staff Training and Supervision.
Good troubleshooting skills are essential.
Sound experience with laboratory based analytical tasks, method validation and verification, as well as clinical result validation and interpretation.
Exceptional communication and problem-solving skills.
