The Opportunity: We are seeking expressions of interest for a highly motivated and skilled Senior Software Developer to join our Agile Software Development team, focused on delivering secure systems in support of Defence operations. As part of a dynamic and high-performing team, you will contribute to the development of critical software applications that directly impact Defence initiatives.
This role offers the unique opportunity to work on large-scale, mission-critical projects that support Australia's Defence sector, ensuring the highest standards of security, functionality, and performance. You will collaborate with a team of talented developers and engineers, using modern software development practices to deliver solutions that meet the stringent requirements of the Defence industry.
The key responsibilities of the role will include, but are not limited to:
Developing high-quality software: Creating and maintaining secure, robust, and scalable software in accordance with established development standards and industry best practices. Contributing to Agile sprints: Actively participating in all Agile software development sprint events, including daily stand-ups, sprint planning, and retrospectives, to ensure timely and effective delivery. Task decomposition and estimation: Assisting with the breakdown of user stories and tasks, while providing accurate effort estimations to support project planning and delivery timelines. System testing and performance: Collaborating with team members to conduct system testing, including performance and unit testing, to ensure optimal functionality and security of the software. Documentation: Supporting the creation and maintenance of system documentation, ensuring that all development work is accurately captured and compliant with relevant standards. As the ideal candidate you will bring: Essential: Relevant qualifications in Engineering and/or IT. 3-5 years of experience in a similar software development role. Proficiency in key technologies such as ASP.Net, C#, HTML, JavaScript . Solid understanding and experience with Structured Query (SQL) and Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) . Strong experience in unit testing and a commitment to writing high-quality, testable code. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills , with the ability to tackle complex challenges. Strong organisation and prioritisation skills , with the ability to manage competing priorities effectively. Superior verbal and written communication skills , enabling effective collaboration with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Desirable: Experience with Azure DevOps (ADO/TFS) and Git for source control and continuous integration. Familiarity with Microsoft SQL Server and Transact-SQL , including writing Stored Procedures . Experience developing in Microsoft Visual Studio and using the Microsoft development stack. Practical knowledge of Agile methodologies (Agile/Scrum) and experience working in Agile development teams. Prior experience working in a Defence environment and understanding the unique challenges and requirements of developing software for Defence networks.
