We are expanding our digital news operation in Sydney recruiting digital journalists to cover international and UK news in text and video.
This operation will perform a crucial role in building the global audiences coming to the BBC as well as setting up our digital coverage to best serve and help grow the early morning UK audience coming to the site.
The team will take over coverage from digital output teams in the UK and US - to drive the biggest global stories as they happen and set up our UK morning offer seven days a week.
It will work closely with teams working in London, Washington DC and Singapore and work alongside a small team of journalists already based in Sydney covering Australian news.
The team will be expected to run live pages on the biggest moving stories, produce news stories and sharp angles in text and video, curate different editions of the website and the BBC News app and work with BBC correspondents and reporters around the world to bring our reporting to millions of people.
Interviews for these roles are expected to take place in the week of 20th January.
Main Responsibilities Journalists for the BBC's Digital Output team based in Sydney will be critical for writing the news stories, live pages and producing video coverage of the biggest daily news in the UK and globally, reaching millions of people.
They will be part of a team that picks up coverage from London and Washington and steers our coverage until the UK news teams sign on in the morning.
A Journalist on the News team will be expected to write accurate, pithy news stories or produce timely digital video - with flair and context.
You will have a love of news and current affairs, sharp reporting skills and a thoughtful approach to how we tell a story.
Tasks could range from writing breaking news, writing live pages, news stories, cutting short video clips, making short video edits helping with our streaming operation or writing a news feature on a big rolling story.
We will want journalists to monitor social and search trends and stay across audience data to help us improve our storytelling.
We are looking for journalists with a strong grasp of the UK and international news agenda and a keen awareness of the best ways of covering the news on digital platforms.
Are you the right candidate?
Substantial recent experience of writing accurate, engaging and fast-paced news in text for digital audiences Experience in producing and editing short news video clips and an awareness of the importance of video to news storytelling Experience of covering the UK and the international news agenda in text and video and a familiarity with the BBC's editorial values Familiarity with using social media, search and audience data to improve storytelling and broaden coverage The ability to come up with angles and approaches to the big stories of the day that will help us reach new and diverse audiences About the BBC We don't focus simply on what we do – we also care how we do it.
