John Curtin College Of The Arts - Teacher - MathematicsThis is a permanent full-time position commencing Term 1, 2025 John Curtin College of the Arts is a leader in public education.
Our commitment is to build capacity in students' academic pursuits and to make each child the best person they can be by celebrating achievements in all facets of education, using creativity to promote excellence and nurture wellbeing.
Our college caters for 1750 students from Years 7 to 12 who come to us through the seven Gifted and Talented programs run by the college for children identified as gifted in the creative domain, including Ballet, Contemporary Dance, Drama, Media Arts, Music, Music Theatre, and Visual Arts.
We also have a small local catchment and a Soccer Excellence Program, making the college a unique learning environment.
Additionally, we run a dedicated program for learners gifted in the intellectual domain in English, Humanities, Maths, and Science.
As a unique learning environment, we embrace the individual differences of our students.
All staff must hold or develop an understanding of gifted learners and learning differences to enable our learners to harness their personal excellence and support their wellbeing.
Engagement in creativity and the Arts is a vehicle for student engagement and motivation at the college.
The Arts at John Curtin provides dynamic opportunities for all students (each year we produce over 100 performances/exhibitions) and develops transferable life skills such as empathy, creative and critical thinking, collaboration, and communication, all important attributes for any future pathway.
Staff at the college enjoy the opportunity to attend performances throughout the year.
John Curtin is proud to be a Quality Teaching Strategy Lead School and works to implement evidence-based best practice teaching in line with Teaching for Impact.
This provides opportunities for our staff to engage in professional development and work with staff from other Department of Education schools to support quality teaching across the state.
Suitable applicants will support the implementation of the college's Business Plan, be committed to whole college approaches and initiatives, and have a strong evidence-based approach to teaching with a commitment to engaging with creativity in all classrooms.
Adopting inclusive practices, differentiating the curriculum, and building positive relationships with students, staff, and the community are important components of the role.
The Role The successful applicant will ideally be an innovative and highly motivated educator with a deep understanding of mathematics and the ability to effectively engage students in their learning.
They should demonstrate their ability to provide evidence-based quality teaching in the Mathematics curriculum area and work effectively as part of a dedicated team.
A passion for their curriculum area and a deep understanding of instructional strategies to effectively engage students in the learning process is essential, as well as the ability to differentiate lessons to meet the needs of individual learners.
Applicants with recent experience and evidenced results teaching the Mathematics Specialist course will be highly regarded.
The successful applicant should be a reflective practitioner who actively engages in activities to improve their professional practice.
They will ideally possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills and be collaborative members of the whole school community, embracing the school's vision, values, and strategic directions.
