Garfield Primary School is a semi-rural primary school located on the fringe of the South Eastern growth corridor. The school has a current enrolment of 150 students and is composed of three Learning Centres, a multipurpose facility and an Art / STEM facility. Each learning centre is facilitated by a team of teachers providing students with an engaging curriculum at their specific level of learning. The school has seven full-time and five part-time teaching staff, a Business Manager and 3 part-time Education Support Staff.
Students at Garfield PS are mostly from the local township, with some travelling from surrounding areas, including Bunyip, Tynong, Nar Nar Goon and Pakenham.
The school is under the management of a positive, co-operative, and supportive School Council and is supported by an active Parents' and Friends' Club, extending links between the school, parents, and the wider community.
Garfield Primary School serves a community of diverse socio-economic backgrounds, currently with a Student Family Occupation and Education (SFOE) index of 0.3987.

Teaching and Learning
At Garfield Primary School, we are working towards becoming a Professional Learning Community (PLC). Our school is focused on ensuring all students are provided with targeted and supported learning programs that meet their individual needs. Teachers work in collaborative teams to regularly analyse learning data and reflect on their teaching practice to ensure students experience a high-quality education every day.
Facilities
Garfield Primary School has undergone major physical changes over the past twelve years, including the demolition of the original school building and the addition of a new school with three learning studios, shared spaces, and a new administration area. Our school boasts expansive grounds with a rural feel due to beautiful natural surrounds. Our Visual Arts/STEM facility and basketball court have also recently undergone upgrades.
Curriculum
Garfield Primary School offers programs from Foundation to Year 6 covering the Victorian Curriculum. Specialist programs currently consist of Physical Education, STEM, LOTE (Japanese), and Visual Arts. Other school programs include sport, a school camp program, and swimming. The individual needs of all students are met through the development of differentiated teaching and learning programs, Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for identified students, and targeted Intervention programs.
Selection Criteria

SC1 Demonstrated knowledge of the relevant Japanese curriculum (F-6), including the ability to incorporate the teaching of literacy and numeracy skills. Experience in responding to student learning needs.
SC2 Experience in planning and implementing high impact teaching strategies, guided by how students learn, and evaluating the impact of learning and teaching programs on student learning growth.
SC3 Experience in monitoring and assessing student learning, using data to inform teaching practice and providing feedback on student learning growth and achievement to students and parents.
SC4 Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills, establishing and maintaining collaborative relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and the broader school community to support student learning, agency, wellbeing, and engagement.
SC5 Behaviours and attitudes consistent with Department values. Experience in reflecting upon practice and engaging in professional learning to improve the quality of teaching.

Role
The classroom teacher classification comprises two salary ranges- range 1 and range 2. The primary focus of the classroom teacher is on planning, preparation, and teaching of programs to achieve specific student outcomes. Classroom teachers engage in critical reflection and inquiry to improve knowledge and skills to effectively engage students and enhance their learning.
As the classroom teacher gains experience, their contribution to the school program beyond the classroom increases. All classroom teachers may be required to undertake other duties in addition to their rostered teaching duties, provided the responsibility is appropriate to their salary range, qualifications, training, and experience.
Responsibilities
The role of classroom teacher may include but is not limited to:

Direct teaching of groups of students and individual students;
Contributing to the development, implementation, and evaluation of a curriculum area or other curriculum program within the school;
Undertaking other classroom teaching-related and organisational duties as determined by the School Principal;
Participating in activities such as parent/teacher meetings, staff meetings, camps, and excursions;
Undertaking other non-teaching supervisory duties.

Who May Apply
Teachers currently registered or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching and qualified to teach and/or have demonstrated experience in the curriculum area(s) specified for the position.
